Opening .akp files (AKAI S5000 format) in the EXS24

Opening .akp files (AKAI S5000 format) in the EXS24

2002-09-13 by Keynote

Hello, all:
I found a few AKAI-format samples that I want to convert to .exs
(http://www.hollowsun.com/soundsf.htm).

Now, it's my understanding that the EXS24 handles that conversion for
me; however, it only seems to be set up for converting AKAI sample
CDs (as opposed to individual instrument files). I've placed the
individual .akp files in the "Sampler Instruments" directory, to no
avail.

How do I get my EXS24 to recognize those individual .akp files? I
don't have to burn 'em all onto a CD, do I?

You can use Translator www.chickensys.com, or CDxtract www.cdxtract.com -
both PC or Mac. Both are commercial programs, but the demos in both cases
(I think) do something to where you can do one or more as an example.

As a hack, you can always take the .wav files and build the instruments
from scratch - sometimes that's not too much trouble.

I did a few conversions with Cdxtract V.4r5
From .akp to .exs files. Worked perfectly on my old G3/233/OS 9.2.1
I connected my Akai Hd on SCSI chain and converted all my S6000 files.
I did try a few times with Translator but didn't succeed. Maybe 1.3.7
version is ok now... Anyway i like the Cdxtract way of life :-)

Feel free to ask me for further details...

CDExtract may also have problems, see my other post for details.

You are such a stand-up guy, mentioning your competition in the same breath.
