Re: [exs] Keyswitch
2002-10-04 by Ned Bouhalassa
You know what I find amazing? I couldn't find a single mention of the
Keyswitch option in the 5.2 Update info found on Emagic's site. They
_really_ should update the EXS24 info page, as well! >:-(
Anyhow, enough ranting. So Damir, Keyswitching means that, for eg, you have
a trumpet multi-sample program that has 5 layers of samples: soft sustain,
medium sustain, loud sustain, staccato, trill. Let's say that the layers
contain samples that are spread out between A2 and G5. Obviously, there are
no samples below A2. That's where the Keyswitch part comes in. Each layer
can be selected by pressing the following keys on your keyboard: C0, C#0,
D0, D#0, E0. When you press C0, for eg, the layer for the soft sustain is
selected and that's what you hear when you play. If you press C#0, the
medium sustain layer is selected instead. Pressing D0 will select the next
layer, loud sustain, etc. The advantage is that you can do this in
real-time, while you're playing/improvising. BTW, you can change the
setting for the Keyswitch keys (maybe you would like to use C1-E1 for
switching layers instead) in the Zone area of your program (found in the
Edit section of EXS).
Good luck!
