How do I transfer Windows EXS24 instruments to the Mac?

I have searched Logic's Help menu and found nothing on the subject. I recently switched from a PC to a Mac, and I transferred my EXS24 instrument files over to the Mac with Zip disks, but I notice that the instrument files have a "PC" icon in the Finder and the EXS24 won't recognize them. I see no import functionality. Does anyone know how to do it? Thanks! David Gowing

re: > Use a utility like 'File Buddy' to perform operations like changing the file type/creator. > http://www.skytag.com/filebuddy/ Thanks. I tried File Buddy with no luck. I'd really like to hear from someone who has successfully transferred EXS24 instruments over to the Mac. Anyone? Thanks, David Gowing

AFAIK this shouldn't be necessary when dealing with exs instruments.
Most of my .exs files are typed as plain old SimpleText documents (in
the Finder), but they show up in the EXS instrument-menu without any
problem.
David, what I would try first is to put all .exs files on the PC in a
zip-archive, and transfer _that_ to the Mac. Unzip using Stuffit
Expander (free from www.aladdinsys.com, and a must-have anyway).
That way the .exs files at least won't get a generic PC type, but
probably a generic "blank" type ("document").

Many of my .exs files are simpletext docs (type 'TEXT', creator 'ttxt') and they show up in the EXS, no problem. -- Hendrik Jan Veenstra <h@...> Omega Art: http://www.ision.nl/users/h/index.html

That's what I forgot to mention in my reply also: Exs-instruments with a PC-icon on my Mac are being recognized without a problem by EXS. So 'cross platform compatible' imo. Ewald

Sorry it took me so long to respond to this. Download this OS 9.x program. Drag your EXS instruments to the program's icon. It will fix the type/creator codes and address any problems the Mac has reading the Windows version files. I've had the same issue in the past. This fixed the problem for me. http://groups.yahoo.com/group/exs-users/files/convert2EXS.sit.hqx -Jer

Many of my .exs >files are simpletext docs (type 'TEXT', creator 'ttxt') and they show >up in the EXS, no problem. It is possible that in moving the file, the Mac saw it as a text document and "corrupted" the file with the CRLF's becoming CR's. There aren't any natural CRLF's in an EXS file, though, although a 13 and 10 may occur accidentally. This likely isn't it, although it's one of many guesses. Really, the only requirements for the Instrument file to show up in the menu is that it either 1) had a FileType of '.exs' or in the name has an suffix extension of ".exs" (without the quotes) - and the file should be legitimate - I do think EXS does a cursory check first, but the extent of that I don't know. This problem would be fixed by my earlier suggestion of zipping the files on PC and unpacking them on the Mac. Trusting the Mac's automatic file-translation stuff is somewhat dangerous in some cases, and something I always try to avoid. -- Hendrik Jan Veenstra <h@...> Omega Art: http://www.ision.nl/users/h/index.html
