The problem is, there seems to be a fundamental difference in the file
formats between rar versions 2.x and 3.x.
Even on PCs you won't be able to open most rar3.x files with WinRar 2.x.
So, most likely Stuffit is only compatible to rar3.x... maybe you should try
MacRar or something else.

Btw, is there a rar version for Macs allowing to compress files? For
whatever it's worth in times of cheap CDs, HDDs and fast internet
connections, WinRar still does a great job on lossless file compression (up
to 60% compression on some audiofiles, even more on docs, BMPs and
whatever), allows for creating selfextracting archives and so on. Simply
brilliant.
I even found myself compressing a few song folders in case they wouldn't fit
on one CD.
If I'd ever switch to a Mac, this would be one of the tools I'd miss a lot.

Regards,
Sascha
.

Please upload the samples as ZIP files. This'll nip the problem in the bud,
as everyone on this list can open Zipped files. I am not interested in
paying for a RAR utility that I will almost never use. Hope to see those
samples again -- zipped. -Jer

I use Emagic's Zap for exactly the same thing. Only for audio files
though, of course.

It's particularly handy when I'm not sure if something's important
enough to waste one backup CD on, let alone two. ;-)

Move to quarantaine

This moves the raw source file on disk only. The archive index is not changed automatically, so you still need to run a manual refresh afterward.
