Hello again.

Tempos have been quite normal - 120 or 128 bpm, that sort of
thing. There's usually just one EXS because I'm used to
transferring one track at a time onto a hard disc package on
another machine (I know, I know, it's just how I've been used to
working in the past!), although there might well be two or three
other EXSs set up but inactive (and empty) in the environment.

I don't know what you mean by what sampler prog, but as far as I
know everything is set up normally.

Cheers

I don't use EXS for drums stuff very often but yes, yesterday something like
you say happened to me......
It'a very short vocal sample of one bar at 32th note with a velocity fade
in....
(Kind of special FX ;).
If I run this sequence from the place in the song where it is,one time to
two, only one of the note don't play....Curiously,the same each time.....
If I run the song from the the beginning ,no problems....
I'had checked if:
The length of each note don't mute the next one.
No 'double' event at the same place.
Velocity and so on.......

Another very annoying thing is that ,sometimes,EXS don't play at all when
starting playing the song.
Very randomly.
I have to select the faulty track ,play some note with my keyboard and then
all run fine.

I have to say that all my system is very very stable....
No crashes for month now....(crossfinger ....)
G4 500 MP,OS 904,Tdm MIX+,PCI 324 MOTU,Lamp 463.....

I can start my sequence at any point with the EXS.

Q: Are the people who are experiencing note drops using PCs or Macs? Or is
it a mixed group? I'd like to hear whether this is PC or Mac specific. It
may help to share the result with the Emagic tech department in order to
isolate the cause of the problem and get to the fix faster. So tell us what
platform these problems are occurring on. -Jer

Re: [exs] EXS playback missing odd events

Hello again.

I work on a PC with a PIII 1000Mhz CPU - you'd think it would be
fast enough for a simple thing like this.

You've also reminded me that I have the same problem sometimes
with EXS Audio Instruments not playing on Bar 1, Beat 1. I got
round this by inserting an empty bar at the start of each song, but
again at this sort of level I shouldn't be having to do this.

These latest messages seem to imply that it's not my set-uo that's
at fault (for once!).

Cheers

I have the same issue with the first bar / beat one, also. I never thought
it worth mentioning. But it's interesting that you experience that also.
I've also noticed some audible clicking (or similar sound) the first time
automation for a specific track is initially engaged. I bypassed this
problem by setting up the initial instruction for each specific automation
track, within the first bar, before the music starts.

Having said that, I have never had a note drop out. Your system should have
no problems of that nature. It's faster than my quickly-aging Mac. Perhaps
it has something to do with the I/O care. I haven't thought far enough about
this, so perhaps I'm jumping to conclusions. But, for lack of other ideas,
I'm leaning toward your ASIO drivers. What card are you using?

Re: EXS playback missing odd events

2001-02-21 by philter@mac.com

Here's my experience;

- No dropped notes (At least not that I've noticed. I'll check out
some tracks in closer detail to confirm.)

- No problem playing back the sequence from any point.

- The only time my EXS will stop making sound is if the sequence is
running and I record enable an audio track. This also cuts out any
other audio tracks that are playing back, but they jump back in after
a second or two. The EXS stays silent until I stop and then play
again.

I've been using anywhere from 1-10 EXS instances usually with an ES1
or two as well.

LAMP 4.6.1
beige G3 with NewerTech G4/450
OS 9.0.4
384 RAM
StudIO card -> DA7
using internal Logic StudIO drivers

hope this helps.

It's a Lynx One, and I'm using the analogue I/O at present rather
than the digital. It's an interesting point, because when I was trying
to get my system together a few months ago, I couldn't get the
ASIO working at all. It was only recognised in the Logic setup
when I uninstalled the latest driver and put in the previous version.

Any ideas?

Based on what you just mentioned, I'm convinced it's the I/O. I know this is
not what you want to hear, but people with PIIIs and Logic have had enormous
success with the Hammerfall I/O. Actually the PIII/1GHz/Hammerfall
combination is probably the best, bar none. It's also top rated for Macs
too. Evidence for this is supported by the testimony of EXS-Users list
members and from reliable friends I have who sell the various cards.

I really think its a compatibility issue with your card, but it may be
purely related to driver conflicts or other software issues. This theory is
reinforced by your problem with ASIO. Your current card may work, but you
may have to rebuild your whole system to find out if the card is worth
keeping. One thing I'm fairly certain of, however, is that your problem is
related to the driver and not the EXS. Q: Do other VST instruments work
efficiently? Do you ever have problems with the regular Logic audio tracks?

I use theEXS for almost everything.
I have never had this problem or any other for that matter. I'm running a G3
300 Logic 4.6.3
Persevere and you will solve this I suspect. Unless it is a nasty PC problem

As I had already specified, this doen't happens if I play the song from the very
beginning.
Did you experiment that, time to time ,EXS don't play at all...??
I have to select the track ,play a few notes on the kayboard and it's playing
again....

Try this famous '32th note'........
In my opinion it could be a blend of compatibility between localised OS (904 fr
for me)
Motherboards (you know G3,G4,G4 gigabit, single or dual proc),extentions etc....

I suppose that the Logic code have to deal with all that stuff....
Because,in the other hand, with my system, all run very fine with lamp ......
