Mod wheel - filter cutoff??

Mod wheel - filter cutoff??

2003-01-02 by Tim Clarke

Could someone please tell me if it's possible to create the following
controller assignment? Can I map the mod wheel so that increasing the value
from 0 to 127 adjusts the cutoff frequency of one of the lo pass filters
from the highest (essentially, no filter cutoff) to a user-specified cutoff
point (say, 1200 Hz)? In other words, gradually moving the mod wheel on my
controller kbd to a high setting would have the effect of gradually rolling
off the high frequencies.

This is what has kept me from using EXS in the past--I absolutely MUST be
able to do this, and control amplitude from the mod wheel as well (which I
did figure out).

Thanks so much for any answers here!

Timothy

You need to get familiar with the routing section of the EXS24mkII. You can
easily disable the mod wheel's control of lfo and replace the setting with
control of the cutoff frequency. You could actually tie the mod wheel to
both cutoff and resonance and have some great fun.

It goes like that:
- The cutoff value you're setting manually on the cutoff knob is your
"ModWheel = 0" value, no matter what you're doing. So in your case you'll
have to set it all the way to the right
- Then you will of course use the modulation matrix to route "Ctrl#1"
(source) to "Filter Cutoff" (target).
- The little triangle is there to define two things:
     a) In what direction values should be modified. Triangle up = values
will increase. With the cutoff being all the way opened allready, nothing
can be added. Triangle down = values will decrease. That's what you are
asking for.
     b) The amount of values being added/substracted. In our example, with
the triangle all the way down the ModWheel will do the same as turning the
cutoff knob from all the way up to all the way down. Most likely too much so
you will want to try with lower values for the triangle slider.

Hope this helps,
Sascha
