'ello guys 'n gals, Anybody of you have experience using multiple monitors (on Mac) for Logic? I'm thinking of adding a second monitor solely for the audioside of things, so that every plugin (read: exs24/other vst-instruments) that I open will do so on the other monitor, instead of cluttering my view all the time... Any advice highly appreciated! ...oh, and all of you a fantastic 2003! Best, O.

...Ouch, that sounds it could be even more frustrating than a cluttered screen..:) Alrighty, thanx for your input! Just to be sure: how do you go about designing screensets with two monitors? How do u make sure your plugs are opened on the second screen..? I use two Sony E540s with a G4800dp. It's good for viewing mixers and arrangements at the same time...various windows. I had to get an ATI Raedon card for the2nd monitor. With my MAC if I had gotten an Apple monitor, I wouldn't have needed the card. But those large Apple monitors are still too expensive. The 23" inch is a beaut. DC

I can vouch for that. I've been using 2 for a year at least and I'd never go back. -Jer > well... you will never want to go back to a single monitor system.

It's as easy as using one screen but twice as powerful. Ex: One screen for arrange, the other for the environment, mixers, etc. Twice as much at your fingertips for every screen(s) shot. It's very straight forward.

Very useful for multiple windows, and yeah, screensets work on both monitors simultaneously. Re: The above comment - all powermacs come with dual head capable GFX cards these days. Normally you have both an ADC and DVI connector on the card. You get a DVI->VGA converter, but the ADC can only be used with expensive apple LCD monitors. HOWEVER, I just bought a "Dr Botts ADC VGA Extractor" for just under 20 quid (from the Apple UK web store) which converts from ADC to VGA which works a treat. Decent cheap solution - *much* cheaper than a 2nd card, and in theory shouldnt use as many system resources as a second card so better in general for performance. This is not to denigrate your product, Pev. I tried an advertised converter that was guaranteed to work by my sales person at ClubMac. It worked, but I had to turn off one monitor before starting up every time. It became a big hassle. It wasn't worth the savings. So I returned it and got the card. peace, Dan

However I thought buying from the Apple Store was a safe bet, and the sales woman assured me I could send it back if it didnt work well enough for me. That said, I've had no issues at all with it and it works great. Was 100% plug and play as well. ~Pev __________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!? That¹s exactly what I do and I agree I couldn¹t think about going back. One thing I would suggest is if possible get the same video card as is already in your machine, I¹ve spent a lot of hours trying to match color on 2 different video cards. For PC users, can a dual head card feed two identical monitors without confusing the OS during Plug And Pray, or do they need to be at least slightly different? Sorry if the question's come up before.

I recently got an ATI Radeon 8500 dual-head card, which I used to replace the stock card in my G4 733. Then got the cheapest 17" flat screen I could find to add to main main monitor. The ATI was $139, and worth every cent. Installation and setup was trivial, you may have to get adaptors to plug your monitors into the card, but other than that it's very simple. Dual monitors are a necessity for programs like Logic, in fact, I could see getting a PCI video card to run a 3rd monitor, 1 for arrange window, 1 for mixer, 1 for plugins!

I'm using the Gefen adapter: http://www.gefen.com/kvm/product.jsp?prod_id=1299 Worked like a charm out of the box. Ran me about $45 many moons ago. I have two 15-inch LCDs, which can also use to playback signal from my DVD or CableTV signals with picture in picture capability. Not good when working on music (very distracting) but great when I'm stuck with the laborious task of building new sample libraries or other administrative tasks. -Jer
