Hi and good morning Julie (unless you're in Europe or Asia!!),
No, I only use the simple patches in GOS. AFAIK, all the GIGA formating
does not work in EXS (except the Keyswitching). I'm hoping that Gary G will
do an EXS version of the library (I'll write him today to see if there's
any chance in the near future. Don't hesitate to write me to see what he
answered). In the meantime, the sounds are great enough for me to get a lot
of work done!

The original Kontakt set is a 21.8 MB download (see my post yesterday for the link) but I think they are well worth having -- 24 bit samples and 3 or 4 way velocity switching for all close miced instruments and also for the full set of samples taken with the stereo overheads. The sound of the overhead samples (for kick, snare, hats, toms and cymbals) is good -- and besides the Wizoo Mixtended Sets and the huge Drumkit From Hell set these sorts of samples not commonplace. Thanks for the DDDD (!) kit. It works fine for me. Good drum kits with
multiple velocities are always useful, I would think. The only thing I miss
is a rim shot. I'm not quite sure if I understand the output settings, but
I suppose it means that I'm supposed to set up a bunch of Aux channels, right?
BTW, I didn't mean to diminish your SAM post - I just didn't want some
people who might already have them to think that this was something new.

I got the Sam's Trumpets set when they were put up last year and I haven't noticed the others on the site. I saw some discussion on these two on another forum and went to get them myself so I thought I would pass it on. I am interested in the Sams Trombones too -- I wonder if they will do a bundle wtih the horns or alternatively offer a discount to licencees of the horns? Anyone know the score here? Don't know if anyone remembers the soundtrack to Taxi Driver -- besides the sleazy alto sax theme there were some massive orchestral pieces -- one very distintive one with long swells on french horns and trombones which is prominent in the opening sequences. The deeper horns in ensemble can develop a very rich and powerful sound. Regards, Murray

If you don't bother with the multiouts (just open either intrument in a Stereo EXS24 instance) the whole thing will collapse to 1 pair of stereo outputs and you will get the blend of the OH and the close mic on all the kick, snare, tom and hat samples. This may not be to your liking. If you set up a Multiout EXS24 instance and a bunch of Aux objects which you have to set up to receive the outputs from the EXS24 you will get fine control over all these sounds. You can mute all the overheads (except for the cymbals for which there are only overhead samples) or all the close miced samples or blend them in the proportions that suit your tune. In the original Kontakt version (David Das) all the overheads were routed to a single stereo pair of outputs. Each set of mono close miced samples were routed to a separate mono output (Hats, Kick, Snare had a group each and the 4 toms were in 4 separate groups panned differently). With the EXS24 it is probably easier to have one group for the toms and pan the individual zones. I created 6 toms from the two sample sets by tuning each one up and down to generate three "toms" from each tom sample set. You can play with the tuning and panning a bit more if you like. To get either EXS24 instrument configuration (A. all OH to one stereo out or B. all OH sample sets to separate outs) to work, you will need a bunch of Aux objects set up in your Audio Layer of the Environment and to make each Aux mono or stero to suit. I went with the EXS24 default of 1-2, 3-4, 5-6, 7-8 and 9-10 as stereo pairs and 11,12,13,14,15, 16 as mono outputs. Thanks Murray, must've been an enormous amount of work to convert them (I actually started doing that myself too, never finished...). I am just wondering, sometimes I'm getting no snare sound when playing this kit in realtime. Velocity splits and group routings seem to be all OK. Anyways, unfortunately the snare sound is not my cup of tea (I usually like either those pretty tight ones or the deep 70-ish funky ones), so I don't know yet if I'll make much use of that. One thing though -- you need to assign a LOTof voices to this kit -- be generous give it 64. The default 16 voices will not cut it at all. There are two samples triggering for every hit of the keyboard (one overhead and one close mic) and everything is "one shot" -- it is not hard to get up to 40 voices playing in a busy part if you leave everything at Max voices. I quite like the overhead kick and hat samples. I have not had much experience blending mics for the same drum hits and in the case of these samples I wonder what could be achieved by playing with the time alignment of the samples (OH vs Close mic).
