Guitar Library (a wacky thought)

I had an abstract thought concerning the keymapping of a guitar sample instrument. Instead of laying out the samples chromatically, they would be laid out by string and finger position. In other words, the first six notes would be the open E/A/D/G/B/E strings and the second six notes would be F/Bb/D#/ G#/C/F etc... Although this would take getting used to, it would first of all, allow you to voice chords using the proper strings. And secondly, it would allow you to voice chords within a relatively small finger position on the keyboard (at least I think so). I realize that this would really screw people up at first but, If you think about, there is actually some symmetry to this. Let's say the low E string is mapped to the C1 key. That means to play a chromatic scale on the Low E string would simply alternate between the C and F# keys all the way up the keyboard. As far as electric guitar samples are concerned, I would go for a clean, wide open guitar that's been recorded direct. No Amp and No Cabinet. Maybe just a bit of compression to squeeze out a bit more sustain. Then you could apply Amplitube or another amp simulator to achieve the desired tone/texture. If you could offer a bunch of different guitars, all the better. -Matt
