Hi Ned / Julie,

In addition to the keyswitching patches, it is not too difficult to get
the EXP patches working too. I thought this had been discussed here
before, but I could be mistaken. Anyhow, here's the lowdown:

EXS doesn't seem to import the velocity ranges for each layer
correctly. So just pop into the editor and assign each layer a
velocity range (ie; 1-32, 33-64, etc.) Then in the routing matrix,
assign sample select to control 1 source instead of velocity. You
might want to bypass the usual 'vibrato' assigned to the modwheel, but
i'll leave that up to you... :) By now, using the mod wheel should
switch between sample layers; you just need to apply some crossfading
to smooth the transitions...

Now if only the legato patches would work somehow....

Hey thanks Mike...No I didn't catch this one the first time around. As
for the legato patches...I've had good luck with the "virtual maestro
tools" that I, realized just yesterday, is on the GOS update
disc...it's a logic environment by Roman Beilharz and it navigates your
up/down bows for you as well as legato passages...some other things too.

Hey Julie,

I'm aware of the virtual MT environment, and tried it out it with my
external Giga machine once. I'm away from my PC now and am doing
everything on a Powerbook. Have you used this environment in
combination with the EXS versions of the LEG patches? I'm no
environment head so I never figured out how to 'cable' this into an EXS
audio instrument...

Hi Mike,
I'm using it on my powerbook with Logic 5.5 in OSX and it works with
the LEG patches. I haven't used it extensively...as I'm just moving GOS
into the EXS from Halion. I'm not an environment expert either...but
my first version of virtual MT came with some instructions on
cabling...really simple..You don't cable it to your audio
instruments...I think it has to do with inserting it after the input
object or something like that. I'll see if I can dig it up.

Ok...Import the environment layer into your song. Make sure, that your
original "physical-input" - "sequencer-input" connection has been
interrupted (which usually happens automatically), If you already
applied any computations to incoming MIDI, cut the necessary objects
and paste them at the "maestroTools" layer. Now insert your own
processing object-circuit in between the red "mTools switch (upper
cable-port) and the Sequencer Input object replacing the plain daisy
chain....

My environment was really simple...no modifications. Once I imported
the layer it was ready to go. Have fun.

Julie
