EXS24: Won't recognise Akai CD!

EXS24: Won't recognise Akai CD!

2003-02-15 by Paul Zimmer

Hi,

I'm trying to convert an Akai CD that contains both audiofiles and Akai
Programs/Samplefiles, but EXS24 doesn't seem to recognise it. Initially, my
Mac just spat the CD back out, but I've managed to get it to swallow it by
launching Toast first.
I've had no problems converting other CDs (which contained no CD audio
tracks), so I'm assuming that it's the mix of audio tracks and data that is
confusing it?
Any help is appreciated!

Paul

Download the Apple 1.3.5 CD/DVD Driver, you can get it at
www.chickensys.com/translator/download - put it in your extensions folder,
disable the newer one and enable 1.3.5. Restart. Your EXS probably will see
it then.

The problem (although yours seems different) is that the newer versions of
the Apple driver do not report the disk areas other than the Audio one once
the Audio area is reported. This affects all Mac programs that attempt to
read any Audio/proprietary Mixed-Mode CD, as it's an Apple problem in the OS.

This answers the other chaps' direct question as well.

Hi Garth,

Thanks for the advice - I will give that a try.

Multiprocessor Support

2003-02-16 by Jer Olsen

In OS9, which environment audio objects are loaded onto the other processor?
I'm fairly certain the live inputs are one thing. Are there any other
objects? -Jer

Another question, is there any way to utilize the live input tracks for more
typical tasks so in order to take some load off the CPU driving all the
plugins? -Jer

If you have a multi I/O audio interface, try physically plugging some of the outs to the ins. That way in Logic you can assign the output of a bus to an output that corresponds with a live input set to receive from the physical inputs reciving those outs. That way you can assign a heavy reveerb plugin for example to the live inoput. And "send" to the above mentioned bus in order to utilize it.

For example:

Bus 1 is set to output 7-8
patch outputs 7-8 to inputs 7-8
set up a live input with ins 7-8 assigned to it
put a reverb plugin on the live input object
now send to bus 1 from your audio tracks in order to utilize this reverb being used on the second processor.

The I/O plugin causes the track it is assigned to to use the second processor.

Not too bad an idea. Thanks. I've scrapped an old mix of mine (one that kept
clicking and crashing) and started over. I'm noticing that the distribution
of processing responsibilities seems to be better distributed on OS9 than I
thought. Maybe the track plugins are on one and the bus plugins are on
another? Hard to say by looking at the meters, but this mix is going much,
much better.

Move to quarantaine

This moves the raw source file on disk only. The archive index is not changed automatically, so you still need to run a manual refresh afterward.
