Teddybut bass REX

2003-02-17 by teddybut

Hi everyone,

I uploaded 3 bass pattern samples I made into the EXS files area. Just open
the included logic file and you'll get the idea. I pulled rex files of the
bass loop into the EXS so you don't have to do anything. there are 3 samples
(REXes), the first is low E, the 2nd G, the third F# (I didn't do them in
order, sorry)... anyway, the original un-quantized midi of the pattern is in
the logic file and I also included a "what I would do with it" midi pattern,
in which I just went in and changed some notes around to see what the
possibilities are. For me the results seem very usable in many contexts. I
have samples of the same pattern played on all notes as well as fills and
other types of performances.

please, Let me know if this is a good way to make a bass/gtr sample library.
I thought it was better than just cleanly sampling notes, since this is an
actual performance it feels that way no matter what you do to it.

let me know if there is further interest in this.

You need to watch out for spaces in the file name & the number of characters.
I had trouble downloading it and had to rename it to convert it.
(I'm on a mac)
But I have it now and will definitely check it out.

thanks,

I had no problem downloading it and it converted automatically... curious.

ya... freaking ESB/DAE crap... sorry.

it would be my pleasure to convert it to ASIO.

but...

why not just open the .lso file with no audio drivers on, export the midi
and import it into your autoload? Then just open the instrument in the exs
and oila... sucks, but it should work, no?

teddybut

PS let me know if the ASIO thing would still help and I'll get to it over
the weekend.

see my previous post re: ASIO version.

an audio unit version? you must be mistaken, right? It's not a plug in, it's
an EXS instrument...

you must mean and OSX version? dealing with OSX is not really on the top of
my list and probably won't be for another year or 2.

yes, very amazing.

are they pops like digital audio pops, as in "I chopped this in Recycle
without caring and please enjoy my transients"?

if it's this, I'm sorry, it's just a quick experiment to see if people are
able to use those kinds of samples in their music. Of course if I were to do
it for real I would make sure the recycle chops are more acurate.

or are they actual bass noises?

ok, whew... now I am not worried.

I have the same loop in 12 keys and 2.5 octaves, this is just an experiment
to see if it's usable.

is that kind of thing usuable at all? If you had 100 patterns like that
built into a library with every key sampled, would you like to have it?
could you use the pattern to make other patterns? Did you feel it got you
stuck in that vibe rhythmically? did you try making a sixteenth note pattern
out of it? did it make your track groove even when not quantized?? these are
the things I need to know.
