midi on/off triggers

midi on/off triggers

2003-02-21 by Josh Ford

Does anyone know if and how I could set up a logic
environment so that my midi keyboard can trigger
samples on the EXS24II where one keypress will trigger
a sample to play until another key press stops it?
I basically want to set up a system where in a live
situation I can trigger loops to play continuously
without having to use masking tape to hold the keys
down.
Does that make sense or am I talking gibberish?

Many thanks

Doable, but somewhat tricky. Pass the note-on and filter the
note-off, then remember which note is being played, and as soon as
the next note arrives, send a note-off for the currently playing
note, and pass the new note-on, filter the note-off, etc... Some
time again I made something similar for someone. I'll have a look
and see if I can dig it up...

Hmmm, couldn't you just use TouchTracks for this?

Set up a monophonic group for each loop and assign a dummy zone (with no
sample) to the same group to be use as the loop's mute key. So each group
would have a loop and an associated dummy key for muting. If you want one
loop to cancel out another, simply assign multiple loops to a monophonic
group.

BTW - To allow the loops to uh.... loop, you can apply Hold as a destination in
the mod matrix with Key as the source. This will allow the loops to "Latch" or
continue indefinitely. It seems that you do have to assign a sample to the
dummy zone so, I would suggest a HH or something similar and just attenuate
the volume so it is not heard.
