[exs] Performance tool VSL for Logic Win

[exs] Performance tool VSL for Logic Win

2003-03-07 by Herbert Boland

Hi Group,

On the Vienna Symphonic Library forum I asked about the future support
for MKII on Logic Windows 5.5. They are developing special software for
realistic orchestral (legato) performances that will be released soon.

I don't know how many of you care about this, considering the costs of
VSL, but I found the answer quite pleasing.

Moderator Martin G. Tichy answered:

"The Legato Tool included with the current Demo Cube works with
GigaStudio only. We're just developing the Performance Tool (including
the Legato Mode) for the the EXS24 mk II. It will work for both OS 9 and
OS X as well as the PC version of the ESX mk II. It reqires Logic 5.5."

As I understand it right this tool sits in your midi stream and
renders a convincing legato play for strings, wind instruments and so
forth. It is not just tieing notes together. The tool listens to
timing and intervals and decides in realtime which following sample
to choose that fits nicely with its predecessor. The EXS instrument
needed for that has a hugh set of samples to pick from. They are
selected by key switches. Sort of articulations on a note to note
basis.
Maybe I didn't understand the demo right, but someone will correct me
here then.
The reason I posted this is the last remark. The tool will be
published for MkII and requires logic 5.5. So the guys from VSL see
Logic pc platform as a market for their product, months after Emagic
pulled the plug on their pc productline. Not that I will buy a top-
notch library like VSL very soon, but it gives some confidence in the
current Logic/EXS combi on pc. It _is_ alive and powerfull. That's
reassuring just after the V6 launch.

I agree and look even further - it's reassuring that a major library
like VSL chooses EXS24/Logic as one of 2 formats to release on. Kind
of makes you feel you put your money on the right horse.......

Normalize All Files (batch process)

2003-03-17 by erland

Hi,

I was wondering if there's a way to batch process (normalize in this
case) all audio files that belong to one of my EXS instruments.

Thanks

Peak can do this. It has a batch processor. -Jer

Another way of thinking of this is to proportionally normalize the samples
so that the relative amplitudes between them all stay the same. We'd been
asked to do that in Translator, we're trying to get to it - it's a long
standing request.

Yeah, that would be even better. You got yourself another customer if
you add that feature.

Or, as they say in the art world, "scale the levels." It would be a
great feature inside the sampler itself.
