Squeezing a DP Mac

Squeezing a DP Mac

2003-04-02 by Nick Batzdorf

I'm cross-posting this to Logic TDM and the EXS24 lists, since I
think it's worth knowing:

On the EXS Users list, Jerry Olson posted that if you insert an I/O
plug-in on a DTDM channel (even if it's bypassed), all the plugs on
that channel go over to the other processor.

That's a very useful tip. I can run two stereo->stereo Altiverbs in
Logic if I do that - along with literally a dozen host-based samplers
(EXS24s and Halions) - but only one in PT if I'm using a lot of RTAS.
Part of that may be just that the HTDM version takes more horsepower.

But if anyone else mixes in Pro Tools with Logic running in the
background with OMS IAC, this means that if there's a choice, you
want to try and use ASIO Altiverbs on HTDM auxes in Logic rather than
in Pro Tools.

Sorry, that should have been "ASIO Altiverbs on *DTDM* auxes.

Oh, and it was Jer Olsen, not Olson, who pointed out that I/O
plug-ins force the plug-ins onto the other processor.

:) I can't take all the credit. Someone else was kind enough to point it out
to me, prior to my post to the list. Thanks for the props though! -Jer

But I like the Jerry part, it has a Seinfeld ring to it.

Speak for yourself, Garth. My thanks to the author for correcting the name.
I don't care for Jerry. ;)
