EXS instrument file format

EXS instrument file format

2003-04-17 by Sumit Das

Since I am so frustrated with the current state of EXS editing,
I am toying with the idea of creating some editing software for
EXS instruments under OSX. Is the file format published anywhere?

	Thanks, smeet

I've been looking into the exact same problem a while back, with the
same idea in mind :-) It seems though that there's not a single
file-format, and it's not published either. I had some contact with
the guy (forgot his name, sorry) who made the EXS cleanup-tool (of
which I _also forgot the name -- that's what age does to you I guess
:-) and he reverse engineered the file format himself. In doing so
he discovered that there are differences between LAM and LAW
versions, and even between various Logic versions, etc, etc. That's
when I gave up... It's a shame that there's not a single public file
format available, as I'm sure that would cause some nice tools to be
written by certain EXS_fanatics...
