The Clearmountain set is good but perhaps a little "wet" for a lot of
things.
IMHO anything that Eric Persing has done.....mainly Liquid Grooves and
Burning Grooves, Retro Funk and I assume the much anticipated "Back Beats"
will be of equal quality.
This is the top shelf, there is no better.
Other audio discs worth picking up are the Ross Garfield ones. Loads of well
recorded single hits on many different drums. Probably not worth forking out
for the Roms of these though. The audio versions will suffice .....if you
don't mind a bit of chopping.
All these examples are real drums recorded in pro recording studios using
outboard gear that we probably can't afford to even hire. I would avoid the
libraries that are rehashed Akai samples put together by some dude in his
bedroom........there's a lot of "mutton dressed as lamb" out there.
