How do you get rid of digital crackling?

How do you get rid of digital crackling?

2003-06-25 by funktronik2000

Does anybody know how to configure the exs24 so you don't get
digital crackling when trying to play more than three notes at a
time? I cant even have two exs samplers up at the samt time or
put any native effects on anything. Your help would be wonderful.

Your're using a PC, aren't you??

I had this problem and the source of the problem was my "you beaut"
DSP sound card.

Go to the web site for your sound card (or the national distributor
for it - they're usually more
honest about problems) and check the support FAQs.

If you've got the DSP sound card (by ST audio) look at www.sound-
music.com.au

The other source of yr problem could be trashy samples. I've bought
some really
schiesenhausen sample disks that have cracks & pops on the ends of
the sample waves.
To check if this is the case, go into the EXS editor, open a zone,
click on "E" in the loop
section and examine the waveform. If it is a crappy sample, you'll
see the crack in the wave.
If it is clean, then the problem is your sound card.

Hope this helps

Regards
Longy

PS: Get OSX on Mac - you won;t look back ;-)

Most of the digital crackling that I'm experiencing is due to buffer
size settings. I tend to keep them small while tracking (24/96) for
latency so I have to put up with cracks and farts. Then during mix down
I set them higher which allows the audio card to function better so
there are no cracks and farts.

It all has to do with buffer settings.

I'm hoping that with the G5 I won't have to worry about this anymore.

I'm on a Dual 800 with 1.5 gig ram, Logic 6.1, OSX.2.6.
