Solution for file management nightmare

Solution for file management nightmare

2003-07-04 by Bacizone

Hi,

I am working on Logic 5.5.1 Gold (Win) and discovered something that may
interest all "poor" exs users without project-management of Logic 6. Do not
know if similar solution could help to Logic 5 Mac users too.

Have you ever felt miserable when Logic starts for e.g. 5-6 min just
browsing the exs instruments? Or when saving.. it starts the same hated
hdd-browsing again...and again.. and again....?

EXS manual suggests that you can use the shortcut features of Windows, that
is: just drop the shortcuts of exs files from e.g. another drive into the
"Sampler Instruments" folder of Program Files/emagic/Logic x.x/Sampler
Instruments.

DO NOT DO IT!!! The "shortcut" method sucks, at least at me!

What is the solution for fast Logic startup and convenient/fast loading of
EXS instruments?

1. I located all my samples and EXS Instruments in subfolders within e.g.
"D:/EXS Bank". It can be anywhere else on your hdd-s.

2. Logic starts fast, if the exs instrument files are copied directly into
the "c:/Program Files/emagic/Logic x.x/Sampler Instruments" folder!!!
Forget the shortcuts! So we should copy *all* of our exs instruments
directly to the original Sampler Instruments folder!

3. If you have a complex folder hierarchy of EXS Instruments at the source,
it would be hard to re-create it manually again just for the EXS files into
the original Sampler Instruments folder.
My solution for this: in WindowsCommander (new versions are called Total
Commander, downloadable form www.windowscommander.com) I go into the the
source folder, where my exs-s currently exist.

4. On the other side of the panel, open the "c:/Program Files/emagic/Logic
x.x/Sampler Instruments"

5. Going back to the source folder panel, now select the Commands -->
Folder Synchronization (sorry dunno the exact name, as I use my own
language version of Commander, but it should be something similar)

6. At the upcoming file selector the "*.*" change to "*.exs"

7. Click the "subfolders too" option

8. Click to Synchronization

9. Commander will copy *only* the EXS files *with all their subfolder
hierarchy* into the original "c:/Program Files/emagic/Logic x.x/Sampler
Instruments" folder.

I suggest you to run the Andrea Gozzi's EXSManager before copying, just to
filter out missing samples, reassing samples to the proper exs instruments,
etc.

10. Restart Logic.. and voila.... it starts much more faster!!!!

Hope this would facilitate the life some PC EXS users.

bye,

[EXS] NS Kit EXS options

2003-07-06 by Sean McCoy

Finally got around to downloading all the NS drumkit files, and am
wondering if the Giga version translates as well into EXS24 as the EXS
version that somebody kindly made available. Any advantages to one over the
other? And am I correct in assuming the EXS version was built based on the
raw WAV downloads? Thanks for any help,

The version I uploaded to the exs-users files area at Yahoo is based on an
import of the Giga version and will not work with the stereo wavs which are
also downloadable.

Thanks, Murray. So I assume I should first import their Giga version, then
replace the resultant EXS instrument with yours?

[EXS] OT-Creating Acidized loops in Sound Forge

2003-07-12 by Sean McCoy

This is slightly off topic, but does anybody have any experience creating
Acidized loops in Sound Forge, then importing them into Logic via Phatmatic
Pro or something else? I have several CD's that have multiple loops within
a single CD track, and would prefer to set up loop points within each
extracted track rather than creating and naming a million new tracks. Any
advice appreciated.

Hmm, I really wonder how this is different from Altiverb apart from the
mixer section? Will it require anything more powerful than my dual 867
MDD to work in surround mode? How about HTDM support? Anybody from VSL
cares to shead some light on this?

Best,

Andy
