Long Shot PPC 210

2011-01-29 by joetad1

I know its a long shot, but I just bought a used 2101 with the software version 1.0.1 and I'm looking for a PCC 210 for it. I've been told that they aren't producing them anymore but I'm hoping someone has one laying around in a closet or something.

I'm also looking for a left end cap for the FC-1 as well.

Thanks and just email me if you happen to find either one of these items.

The best first step you can take is to upgrade your EPROM chips to version 3.00.00. These are occasionally available on eBay and add functionality to your 2101 which is well worth having, such as additional factory algorithms and programs, a bug-free operating system, and increased MIDI capabilities.
Also, make sure your 2101 has a 20 MHz clock rate. During power-up, your 2101 displays the software version (1.0.1 in your case). If this software version is followed by a lower-case letter a, you have the 20 MHz clock. If not, that's another upgrade worth considering.
After that, I'd get used to programming your 2101 before deciding that a PPC-210 is a "must-have". I have several 2101s, some with and some without the PPC-2101, and personally I don't think the additional functionality with the PPC-210 is worth the sticker price, which is typically $150.
My 2 cents. I hope it helps.

Good site, anyway.

I've bought my 2101 new waaaaaaay back in the day. Still have it and last year I upgraded to the PPC210 which I bought from the one and only Deiter (look him up). Works perfectly and I now have seamless patch changes with ramping which was my primary goal in buying it. Tone-wise it really won't do anything for you unless you want bigger more complex algorithms. What I used to do to get that seamless effect was to assign multiple parameters to my expression pedal. It would function as my "lead" channel with a dist vol, 4 bands of the standard eq, any effect levels, etc all tied into that one expression pedal. Worked great for my metal solos but would be less good for distinctly different tones (dist to clean or overdriven to clean choruses, etc)...

Please let me know if this helps.

Yeah if you play live and switch between programs and don't want your reverb/delay tail to be cut off the seamless feature is important.

Also, one of my 2101's has a PPC 200 card from a TSR24S. Works just like a PPC 210. I suspect they are one and the same.

I have three Gsp 2101's. On one I installed a PPC-210 Card and the other 2 , The Artist and the Artist Pro came with factory Installed 210 cards. Two of them I purchased brand new in the 90's and one I purchased on ebay about 5 years ago.
They all function beautifully. The advice you received to upgrade your software to 3.00.00 is sound. As a matter of fact, I don't believe the PPC-210 Card will even function with less then 2.00.00 . You can still find the up grade chips on ebay for a decent price.
PPC-210 cards are pretty expensive. They are worth it if you want seamless program changes and to create huge dual S Disc algorithms. I play guitar for a living and really love the seamless changing capabilities of my 2101's.
The problem is the price of the PPC-210 Card... It's upwards of $200.00 these days and you may be better off looking on ebay for a 2101 that already has the card installed. You can usually get the whole package for under $300.00.
Then just sell the 2101 you already have to defray the cost.
If you want to pursue a 210 card, Dieter comes upon them from time to time and he'll put you on a contact list. When one becomes available he'll e-mail you. But I believe it's a first come first serve basis so you'd have to move fast. They are pretty hard to come by these days.
I do have a left end cap for a Control One that I can sell you. It's never been used. Contact me if your interested.
