Have some 2101`s FX return porblems

Have some 2101`s FX return porblems

2016-05-12 by <keenears@...>

Hello List, glad to see you`re still alive and I even hope, well)

I do use two 2101`s (both live and studio), but appears that both do have same problems ... I have FX Send working and FX return almost silent on both units. On first unit i think i can hear a really low volumed signal and no signal on the second unit. Do someone recall any common 2101 problems on FX sends?

I hope to get closer to them and measure everything in FX return with a multimeter and the PC scope, and maybe I just find these just have some caps died , thats easy to fix.But I doubt I will get that going soon and would be nice to be prepared to check some weak places, if any.

Also will be glad to know, what mods and fixes had you dobe to your units.I`m going to replace caps and probably get better opamps in the input section (or even eliminate opamps and use some simple FET sections). Also I hope I`ll be lucky enough to hang some newer ADC/DAC to the S-Disc and make it working.FW upgrade, 20MHz are already done, new battery also.

Shh, I hope Im not the only crazy user of 2101 left in a middle of the desert )

Thanks!

Hello,

i am also new to the group and to the 2101.

maybe it's a stupid question, but did you select "summed" or "no sum" in the External FX Loop parameter of the patch?

I did not have any return until I changed this parameter. It only affects 1 patch.

I wonder if it is possible to set "summed" by default for all the patches.

Cheers,

Vincenzo

Unfortunately no. The only "global" parameters are the "global EQ" and "output mode" (UTILITY menu) everything else you have to set and save for each individual patch...

Best regards, Marko

If you're using the FX Return either to bypass the analog section of the GSP-2101 altogether or if you're using both the FX Send and the FX Return to include an additional FX unit in the signal chain and the GSP-2101 is giving you no signal at it's main outputs, here's the sum of my experience:

1. Check your program settings to make sure you've set the External FX Loop to either "Summed" or "No Sum". The "Bypass" setting will ignore any signal arriving at the FX Return jack. You must check this setting for each of your programs. There's no global "Summed" or "No Sum" setting.

2. Check your program settings to make sure the Stereo Noise Gate (this module is displayed after the External FX Loop setting) is set to "Bypass". There's a MIDIWizard White Paper that discusses this problem and advises to use the "Bypass" setting. Again, there's no global "Bypass" setting for the Stereo Noise Gate.

3. If both suggestions 1 and 2 do not rectify the problem, it could be that the FX Return jack is defective. I've had problems with the original jacks which are now about 25 years old. I've replaced all jacks on my 3 GDP-2101's with REAN NYS216G jacks which have gold-plated contacts.

Please let our group know how you solve the problem with your GSP-2101's FX Return.
Hope this helps,
Graham
