Control One switches died

Control One switches died

2004-02-20 by Al Costa

Hey,

Anyone have a switch (or two or three) on the Control One stop
working? Did you get it repaired? If so, at what cost and how did you go
about doing it? My number 5 switch went last night at band practice. I
opened it up and saw nothing that appeared unusual. I put it back together
and now my 3, 5, & 10 switches are all out of commission.

Thanks,
--AL

hi,

I had this...
I got repaired. This is only dirt inside it, between the metal and the
electric contatc,
First I opened the switch(not the pad) with a knife(or anything) and I
cleaned inside it, be careful (w/ you and the switch) because you can damage
it. This will help you for little time.
Second you can swap this, any switch cost less than 1US$, but now you'll
need to solder this new in the board. After this I never more had this
problem.

Bye
Renato

Re: Control One switches died

My other guitarist had 2 & 3 go out on the Control one. I did a temp
repair by removing the plastic footswitch actuaters by pressing the
front of the pedal gently with my thumbs and lifting up. Gently
because there are tabs that hold it in place which can break if
forced. Replacements are like $0.64 each from digitech. There is a
little plastic pin that presses the switch. Looking closley you'll
probably find a wear mark on the switch where the pins hits plus some
wear on the pin. I reparied it buy cutting electrical tape into
small squares around the size of the black button on the switch. I
used 3 layers - 4 was one too many. A quick test is too press the
switch with you finger to see if it switches. If not dirt may of
collected inside if for instance the switch went out and sat unused
for months. No problem keep pressing the switch 20 times or so and
it will probably self clean. If not you will need a new one.

Just an oddity. I have the original 96 GSP2101FC on my rig and none
of the switchs have a problem.

Thanks. I opted to send it out for service. After taking it apart, I found that pressing the switches with my finger still didn't trigger the effect. It's my original pedal from 95 and has been in my basement and moved around a lot from one garage band to the next. Probably worth having it properly serviced.

Hey I never thought to clean them thanks! hehe
My Control one has had many beers spilled on it from drunken bar nuts trying
to sing.
It's annoying but comes with the territory, making a living entertaining
drunks! ;-)
Surprisingly the board hasn't totally conked out yet after almost 10 years
of constant abuse!
I have replaced some switches in the past (resoldering new ones)
but I didn't even consider using a contact cleaner! Duh
I've been using the board with about 4 peds not working properly for the
last few years!
Been too lazy to replace them! LOL
After reading this post I pulled off all the plastic peds & gave the
switches a good squirt.
I didn't take the switch apart just squirted the cleaner into them.
Works like a charm now!

Thanks!
Sean

Re: [gsp-2101] Control One switches died

2004-03-15 by Peter

I encountered the same problem and tried to open the controler. The first
idea was indeed to resolder new ones but it's worth a try just cleaning it
with contact spray. The biggest problem I encountered was opening the unit:
the volume pedal has this little metal plate for the LED interuption. How
can you ope this without having to remove the metal plate and more, how to
remount it?

Thanks

Peter
