Oh my god. If that really is the truth, poor NYC people.
Let's hope there will never be such a thing for germany. I don't think
Berlin could pay for such a license during the Love Parade (where half of
Berlin actually IS a turned into a dancing club).

In Tokyo there is a selectively enforced law that prohibits dancing
anywhere after midnight. Generally people forget about its existence
but every few years some cops and politicians get a hair up their
butt and a bunch of clubs get closed. It would be funny if it
weren't such a bummer.

I wonder how one defines "dancing"? Moving one body to a beat? What if
you stayed in your seat and bobbed up and down. Or what if you moved to
the beat as you walked to the bathroom. And how do they prove this in a
court of law? Undercover videotape?

According to some club owners I know, one of the things they look for is a
cleared out area with no tables or chairs - evidence of willful dancing!
And other dancefloor accoutremonts, like lighting. Basically, if it looks
like you're condoning dancing. Some places that have a cleared out floor
for live shows, like Contenental Divide, put up 'no dancing' signs, probably
to appease the inspectors. You can't really expect people to sit at a
candle-lit table listening to some blur-core band :)
