Hi all, Am considering purchasing the UAD-1 Studio Pak. Anyone on this list purchased or used this product? Any opinions out there on this? I'm just a little suspicious of how they can give these plug-ins names like LA-2A compressor, Pultec EQ's etc. Is this just marketing ; - ) thanks in advance, tc

The UAD plugins are one of the biggest, most talked about and highly regarded suites of plugins on the market period. They are physical models of the original hardware units. UA's ability to model well is second to none. Nuf said. Does anyone have these extra plugs and does it seem to be worth the extra $? JP

My most used plugins are Cambridge, Fairchild, 1176, LA2A, Precision Limiter. I suspect I would use the Precision EQ a fair bit if I had it. At least some of these are extra $$$. I guess I'm saying the Ultra is worth it. This list is very quiet. You'll get a lot more info & opinions over at <http://www.chrismilne.com/uadforums/>

I don't think I would buy the UAudio board if I were to do it again. 1. The plugs are expensive - $150 - $250 EACH,on top of the price of the board 2. Unlike AU plugs which can be used on multiple computers and your powerbook, these are staying with the one computer that uses the board 3. Remarkably few instances of the plugs will choke the card. 4. There are a couple of decent compressors, but the channel strip, distortion, etc are crap. The plate reverb is superceded by Logic's own convolution verb which has plate emulations. I think if i were to do it again, I would get the Blue Tubes bundle or Sonalksys or maybe the Waves gold bundle. > My most used plugins are Cambridge, Fairchild, 1176, LA2A, Precision > Limiter. Blue Tubes, two questions: Do they really sell the bundle only, no single plugins? Do they sound as warm as they claim? I tested a lot of plugins last week and I am a bit tired to compare marketing speech to reality :-) ___ Peter Ostry Actually I hate that every company wants to "sound like" and "emulates perfectly" and sells "vintage" or "modern sound" and all that stuff. I do not want processors which let sound music old or young. I'm old myself and my music is rather young, most of it not even born yet. I want something which processes it properly. "Outstanding reverb algorithms" is a meaningful statement but something like "recreates the famous sound of the 70's" is bloody nonsense. We had a lot of terrible sound these days. And today and tomorrow. I don't want a washing machine with the perfect (low) quality of a 1960 model nor do I want the Nanowave UltraCleaner Future3000. I want someting which - washes.

I used Blue Tubes under system 9 but there is a trial version for X too. They sounded good, looked good, and were not too heavy on the processor. $400 for 16 plugs is a good deal compared to $500 for the current special for UA for three plugs (the master mind series). I would definitely buy the Blue Tubes had I not already sunk $1000 in the UA [Non-text portions of this message have been removed]

To use the demo you have to go through a somewhat confusing challenge/response procedure. After trial and error I figured out the procedure, but I couldn't enter the response code. I tried to copy/paste it, but it wouldn't paste. Then I tried the "Read Response" button next to the response code window, but hat locked up my computer three times (the spinning multicolored wheel)...requiring multiple reboots. I could have entered the response code by hand, but it's 245 characters long...it's not worth my time. After a good 30 minutes or so trying to get the plugs to work (with no success), I deleted them from my hard drive. Maybe I am overreacting, but absolutely nothing turns me off more than a product that chews up my time. Maybe my experience with BT is unique, but it's an experience that has not warmed me up to the product. Dave [Non-text portions of this message have been removed]
