Both the yellow and black j-link devices branded IAR, the OEM is Segger. 
This is no secret.  One passes 5 volts from USB to the target, the other 
does not.  They work with any ARM7/9 including Thumb mode.  IAR uses 
Segger's software unmodified.

I was told Segger has no plans to develop a Linux driver.
