Moving processors (IAR / JLINK)

Moving processors (IAR / JLINK)

2005-11-16 by Mark Butcher

Hi All

As much as I love the LPC2000 I have to do a 'quick' project with
the Atmel ATS91SAM7 - mainly due to its inbuilt MAC and DMA on the
serial interfaces. [When the new LPC model with MAC is available
next year it may be considered as well].

The questions are these - to any one which may have already tried or
knows - can I use my present tools?
I use the IAR Embedded Workbench with the Segger J-Link JTAG
debugger and assue no problem basically building projects for the
SAM7. The JTAG interface should also be basically compatible but
will there be any hitches?

- and which demo/evaluation board should I order to start trying?

Will also post in the SAM7 group but feedback from someone with LPC
background would be great.

Regards

I have used IAR/Segger with Atmel - no problems.

Hi Mark,

I switch back and forth between LPC and SAM7 using IAR and J-link with no
problems. The FreeRTOS download includes sample IAR projects for both.
Take a look at the SAM7X uIP demo for a project using IAR tools on a
standard dev board.

The one issue I'm aware of to watch out for is the .mac files supplied with
some early IAR/SAM7 kits did not always initialise the peripherals
correctly - so code would work fine on first download/debug session, but not
on subsequent downloads until the hardware had been power cycled again (only
when using the debugger).

Regards,
Richard.
