Unable to flash to extenal memory

Unable to flash to extenal memory

2004-12-09 by wunny83

I'm using the LPC2000 Flash utility to flash to position 0x80000000
on the phytec 2294 but when i load the hex file into the utility i
get the messgae invalid hex file.

Does any know if it is possible to do this or is the ulink JTAG
device the only way to go about doing so.

Re: Unable to flash to extenal memory

The Ulink / Keil software is probably the most convenient way to flash
the external memory on the Phytec board today. I would not know about
another utility availble that would do it independent of the compiler
tool chain. May be IAR has something similar using their J-Link but I
am not sure. In the past when I worked with Phytec boards, they
provided a Flashtool, designed to program the external, on board
Flash. Don't know why this is not done with the LPC2000 board.
p.s. may be some requests directly to Phytec could help here

Cheers, Bob

Vaporware for now, but we will have a flash downloader / JTAG dongle
package for around $175-$200 that will program most flash ARM and external
flash, sometimes in Jan.

The Ashling PathFinder/Opella combination works as well and now has LPC213x
support.

RE: [lpc2000] Re: Unable to flash to extenal memory

We are licensing the HW and SW from another company, with our own brand
name. The JTAG dongle looks really nice with "ImageCraft" on it :-) The
initial version is PAR based to cut down on cost, but they also have a USB
dongle so we can have that option later on as well. If there are demand, we
can also support the Wiggler.

The current product does not support the LPC flash and it's OK for them.
For us though, it is critical that it supports the LPC as we expect we will
be, ahem, a major player in the C compiler market for the LPC2K series. So
this will be done in the next few weeks by their engineers.

I think it does support a whole bunch of other flash micros, but we /
ImageCraft will not be looking at those for a little while. First we need
to get this ARM puppy off the ground...

Wigglers work well with the LPC2xxx series. The 1.3 version of
CrossWorks for ARM can flash an LPC2xxx at 14Kbytes per second using a
wiggler (and our own device driver), our (USB) CrossConnect for ARM can
flash at 25K bytes per second (compared with 100+K bytes per second into
RAM). So if you have a parallel port available don't be in a too much
of hurry/worry to get a USB based device.

As a potential customer, I would prefer to go USB. It's not really a speed
issue but a convienance issue. Most PC these days have USB ports out front,
etc.

As a potential customer I would much rather parallel, because it's
easier to support in Linux than some weird-ass proprietary undocumented
USB device.

CrossWorks supports both USB and Parallel port connections. We only support the parallel port on Linux at the moment but the USB support will follow.

Do you actually have a two-stage flash programmer for devices with
external flash, or do you just have generic JTAG support, requiring the
user to write his/her own flash loader?

Lewin,

The flash loader communicates over the DCC and is responsible for
flashing the target. We have canned loaders for all the integrated
flash ARMs (LPC, SAM7, ADuC, STR7xx) and also for ARMs with external
flash. The loader is provided n source form so you can customize it for
your own external flash.

So, load a program into RAM, run the program to load the external FLASH,
and you're away. We have canned loaders for devices with external flash
(e.g. the Revely boards...)
