I suggest running thru your mixer than use the direct out... or the FMR RNP preamp. This is what I do since I have had no synth (mono) throwing out enough gain

The best choice is a channel strip product of some sort with gobs of headroom and a D.I. input. The best choice until the MOTM pre-amp comes out, of course..

Splitting hairs, indeed. I like the LED placement on 4c better. I have no preference on the Fine and Freq placement, 4a and 4c are equal in that respect.
