OBERHEIM SYNTH

I've just purchased a Matrix 1000 and thought I'd join the list as I 
have a couple of questions.

Firstly, I've noticed that the power supply makes a lot of noise. I 
wondered whether this was common with the matrix 1000 and, if so, 
whether anybody knows where I could get a (quieter) replacement part?

Secondly, I opened up the unit (to investigate the noisy psu) and 
found that the main board has been modified slightly. Basically the 
chip next to the timers, which I believe handles midi communication 
(according to the information on this page: 
http://wolzow.mindworks.ee/analog/m1k.htm), has a wire soldered 
between one of its legs and the legs of another chip next to it. 
Doesn't seem to affect the unit in any way but I was curious as to 
why it's there. Anyone have any ideas?
