OB series Factory patch names

OB series Factory patch names

2012-02-29 by Les

Although none of the OB series (OBX, OBXa, OB8 I mean,) have the ability to display or store names with the patches, there were names assigned by the originators. I think I've seen an OBXa 120 program list as a download somewhere, and I have that on paper so I suspect there is an OB8 version on paper somewhere.
Does anybody have this?
Once I had the MIDI'd OB8 and a patch Librarian, I made up my own names, like anybody would, and had a complex regime to keep them all straight in my head and hopefully in the instruments.
The paper version or a scan of it would help me to nail down where some of these patches originated, my variations were always close to the factory.
There aren't that many different patches really, I always though the Matrix 100 was a bit hopeful, nice though it is. Those patches have names and the Matrix 1000 doesn't use them, though my Matrix 6 diplays, and saves them vis MIDI so I can print my own lists.
I also suspect that some of these noises originated with the earlier instrument models and were carried through to the later, so I suspect there's a version of the Xpander patch {Liquidz} for and OB8, or one of the others possibly.
I don't have a working scanner at present, but I'm sure I can get the OBXa one scanned if nobody else has it already.

The OBXa claims something odd for the Split/Double section of the patches. The OB8 had 8 splits and 8 doubles, I remember using both, 4 voice though they were, they sounded great, but what about the OBXa? Any comments from current working OBXa owners? Was it different for earlier software revision or?

This page has some info about patch name, and demos of the sounds too - kinda cool: http://www.synthmania.com/ob-8.htm
I had also come across copies of the pages from the original manual, in .jpg form. I've attached the "Factory Patches" page

Thanks for that.
A comparison of the two patchsheets, OBXa and OB8 show a remarkable overlap, of names at least.
I don't remember them sounding very alike at the time, around 1986?, I eventually sold the OB8s, having tried 2 together to fatten them up, and got an OBXa again, less reliable though. Now of course I mainly remember the great features, factory MIDI, arpeggiator with DMX sync, more waveforms on everywhere, better real-time modulation and I thought being in tune would be an advantage at the time.
When I had Kenton MIDI my second OBXa, John mentioned that he'd spent some time figuring out a way of mapping patches across, probably from the OBX to OB8, but he didn't pass them on to me, but I didn't ask.The Doubles/Split thing was the OB8 had 12 of each, you could use the letters as well as the numbers.
The last 2 banks of the OBXa are combined on the patch sheet, that's the oddity I had a vague memory of.

Hello Les. I uploaded a scan of the OB-8 factory patch names from the OB-8 owners manual to the group Files directory.
The file name is OB-8Fact.jpg
Hope this helps you : )

This moves the raw source file on disk only. The archive index is not changed automatically, so you still need to run a manual refresh afterward.
