Unplug the MP-7 from everything except power. See if you still have hum in the headphones. If you don t, try connecting things one by one until the problem

Yup. The e-mu is quite flexible. The tip is the send, the ring is the return. Mono plugs only have the tip and the sleeve, so you will only get the outgoing
