That's a really good point, and sums up how I use mine exactly. SX is
nothing more than a glorified tape deck for me, but the PX-7, that thing
you can actually play....

computer sequencers are really just glorified tape recorders, in my
opinion, as opposed to a well-designed hardware sequencer, which is more
like a musical instrument.

Many thanks. Haven't thought that there were any values below zero. I'll
look for that when I get home.

>>>Many menus in the Command Stations do this (but not the LFO rate menu,
grrr!), not just the Delay menu BTW. ,<<

Great tip. Is that in the files section here already?

>>>No, but there's a lot more in the Tips and Tricks Document. <<<

The delay between pattern changing has been fixed? Hmm, so that's a way to
arrange complete productions on the XX-7.

>>>Yes, I do live sets this way. <<<

There is no way to quickly experiment on the XX-7 as the one octave
keyboard is too few to experiment.

>>>You just need to appraoch it differently than you would with Fruity
Loops. Trying to compare a computer sequencer to the XX-7's sequencer
will only get you confused, or wishing it could do things it can't. Best
if you just appraoch it for what it is, and then learn to work it the way
it's intended to be worked. Just keep practicing and having fun, you'll
get it soon enough. :) <<<

LFO Sync to BMP Clock

2004-04-09 by steve_the_composer

LFO1 and LFO2 (layer level controllers) use 25 values below zero to
sync LFO to BPM clock from 1/32 [-1] to 8/1 [-25].

Let me know if you do!!
That, and not being able to switch between pattern variations
quickly are the downsides of the XX-7 sequencers. I dont want to
have just one pattern per track, and I dont wanna have to wait till
the end of the loop for it to change ... I want to do quick pattern
switching for fills and variations.

You can change patterns at any time by pressing the play and stop
button at the same time. Or hold down the play button and then just
tap the stop button when you want the pattern to change.

If you have a pattern "queued up" you can just press PLAY + STOP to jump
immediately to the next pattern.

... and I dont wanna have to wait till the end of the loop for it to change

That's how I made my own RPS's in the XX-7's. I have the triggers firing
off percussion parts that use odd time signatures (ala the arps) for
interesting variations.

rEalm

Hmmmmm.  32 arp sequencers--different lengths; some synced, some not;
triggered by some or all of the 16 buttons (as notes) . . . .

Hmmmm. lotsa potential there--if I ever get back into making music!

Odd meters, different loop lengths, arps, RPS

2004-05-03 by steve_the_composer

Excellent!!!

When I get back into designing my performance modality, this will be
on my list to explore. Any tips, a small tutorial, setup/design
considerations, warnings, etc. would be appreciated.

The gears are churning--backing tracks with midi sax noodling
 + foot pedal sonic manipulations!

Gotta find .wrk file for the dance tune in 7 and do some
deconstruction/reconstruction with arped poly rhythms!!!!

It's been covered many times in the archives, I did a few full-length step
by steps on it. If you can't find it, let me know and I'll do some
digging when i get the time.
