Cakewalk .INS question

Cakewalk .INS question

2006-08-26 by sounddaddy2

I have loaded several .ins files into Sonar ... I see everything
fine .... But when I go to a bank and click a preset in Sonar My MP7
pops up ROM NOT INSTALLED ???? on whatever channel I am working on ...
what's wrong ??

Also I have not been able to find definitions for the PROM or WORLD
ROMS ... If anyone can help me that would be awesome ... thanks !

Diagnostic questions:
Which ROMS do you have installed?
Do USER presets have the same problem?
Do all installed ROMS have the same problem?

Have you looked at the *.ins files in this folder:
http://groups.yahoo.com/group/xl7/files/Command%20Station%20Data/

Compare your *.ins definitions with those in p2k-all.ins file. It
sounds like you are not using the right bank switching values for the
ROMs you have. When Sonar tells the MP7 to switch to a bank that you
don't have a ROM for, that's the message you get (ROM NOT INSTALLED).

=============================================================
EXAMPLE [exceerpts from *.ins file using AOrch ROM in P2500]:

.Patch Names

[E-MU P2k: Advanced Orchestra: Bank 0 (8448)]
0=cmb:AdvancedOrch
1=cmb:Traditional
2=str:LegatoString
3=cmb:Orch Split
etc.

.Instrument Definitions

[E-MU Proteus 2500]
Patch[8449]=E-MU P2k: Advanced Orchestra: Bank 1 (8449)
Patch[8448]=E-MU P2k: Advanced Orchestra: Bank 0 (8448)

=============================================================
AOrch MSB = 66 [Find MSB of ROM by pressing audition]
66*128 8448
Therefore, Bank 0 of the AOrch ROM is accessed as Patch[8448].
Bank 1 is Patch[8449].

If you try to switch to bank 8457, the E-Mu will look for bank 9 in
the ROM whose MSB is 66 and you will get the ROM NOT INSTALLED message.
If you try to switch to bank 9, the E-Mu will look for bank 9 in User
memory.

You may know all this, but maybe not. Hope it helps.

I have an MP& with PROM.. MOPHAT .. WORLD and DRUM and an XL7 with
the XL ROM.

I have downloaded the .ins from your link and sane deal.

I also have a Yamaha RS700 and that works perfect ... I
dowloaded .ins and it works.

Any Clues ??

Re: [xl7] Re: Cakewalk .INS question

2006-08-26 by Aaron Eppolito

The ins files don't match the ROM(s) you have, thus the NOT INSTALLED message. If you press the Audition button while in the Preset main screen, it will show you the MSB and LSB of the current preset. Like Steve said, if MSB*128+LSB doesn't match the bank number in the ins file, it will give the above error.

Re: Cakewalk .INS question

2006-08-27 by sounddaddy2

--Thanks Steve ... Hopefully you can re-send it later ... i would love
to see your input.

Ok so here' s where I'm at ... i downloaded the PatchPro and created
.ins from my actual MP7 unit and ROMS ... I then loaded in Sonar...
All show up and are perfect ... The problem I am having now is that
the the MP is not switching ROMS ... I can call up a preset in Sonar
for say World ROM bazouki on 012 bank 3 on channel 4 and the mp
switches preset and bank but not ROM ... I have to manually change the
ROM on the MP7.

When I close Sonar it remembers the patches I set but on reload it
does not recall the proper ROM on the MP7 ... seems to just revert to
slot 1 ... which is Mo Phat User/MP7 sounds.

Re: Cakewalk .INS question

2006-08-31 by sounddaddy2

Hi Guys can you help me out .... I have everything loaded up but the
MP doesent recall patches when I open a project in Sonar 5 ... I have
a Yamaha RS7000 with .ins in Sonar at it works fine.

On the MP I have to scroll to the proper rom and see the patches as I
make changes in Sonar from the .ins files ... They are acurate and
match each other perfectly.

The only way I have been working around this is saving a multi of the
song on the MP and restoring it ... But i know there must be a way
that I can't figure out ... any help or guidance ??

If I create a pattern in the MP and save it via e-loader and then
open it up in Sonar it asks if I want to send sysex data and I say
OK !!! ... The MP plays all of the presets fine.

Just to be clear the problem I am having is when I write and go
fishing for sounds From/In Sonar .... They don't recall on the MP7
when I re-open in Sonar.

I have Sonar 5 with an MP7 with 4 ROMs (POP,DRUM,PHATT,WORLD) an XL7
with just the XL rom and an RS7000 .... I also have another MP7 that
I use to control Sonar and the soft syths.

Re: Cakewalk .INS question

2006-09-01 by steve_the_composer

I think my lost post might have helped diagnose the problem. Presently,
my computer (and Sonar) is not MIDIed to my E-Mu [P2500 w/ XL-1 ROM].
So I have not been able to reconstruct the diagnostic steps. Perhaps
over the long weekend I will be able to do it.

My guess is that you do not have Sonar setup properly. Why don't you
either post (in the Files section) your master.ins file from Sonar. I
(and others) can try to figure out what's not working properly.

> If I create a pattern in the MP and save it via e-loader and then

Internally E-Mu sequences have a short sysex command that sends preset
data to the internal synth. When you save that as a *.mid file and open
it into Sonar, Sonar stores that as sysex bank 0. It is designated as
autosend, so you are asked if you want to send it when you first load
the song into Sonar (unless you change the default query to "Don't ask
me any more; just do it!")

(Select View | Sysx, highlight Bank 0, then press Enter to see the
command.)

Don't despair; unless Sonar 5 is seriously buggy, you should be able to:
(1) change presets via Sonar on a track by track basis
(2) save your Sonar project with you desired presets.

I never got this figured out ... all my .ins match my presets in the
MP7 ... I have the Composer...World and Drum ROMS ... .ins files
where made with the PROTEUM software and match up perfectly with the
BOX.

i switch banks in SONAR and everything works fine in the USER
BANK ... it just doesnt switch ROMS hen I make the change in SONAR.

I have just been saving MULTIS in the box and recalling them after I
load a song in SONAR 6 PE.

Any Clues I would REALLY like to figure this out.

Thanks !

There may be an easier way, not sure, but one way i
can think of is to break the midi file into 32 length
patterns and then use e-loader to upload those
patterns. From there you can add the midi segments as
patterns in individually to a song.

You should be able to import a midi file longer than 32bars into song
mode with E-Loader.
As for editing, the same sort of functionality as pattern mode, but
just one track.
Is this what you mean?

Re: can i set the XL7 keypads to be more sensitive?

2007-05-06 by steve_the_composer

I can't answer all your questions; I hope others can.

3. Different EQ
You cannot EQ "tracks" internally. If you want to do it externally,
you can use the main outs and sub outs.

On the preset level, you can use different filters and different
settings on different layers. Each preset can have up to 4 layers
(not including linked presets). You have the following types of
filter "types:"
LPF - Low Pass Filter
HPF - High Pass Filter
BPF - Band Pass Filter
EQ+/EQ- - EQ FIlters
VOW - Vowel FIlters
PHA - Phasing Filters
FLG - Flanging Filters
REZ - Resonance Filters
WAH - Wah-wah Filters
DST - Distortion Filters
SFX - Special Effects Filters

With each filter you have settings: Freq: & Q:
Each layer also has a filter evelope (AADDRR).
Using patch courds, you can also rout various "sources" to to
various "destinations"--including FiltFReq [Freq] and 'FiltRes [Q].

4. Using knobs

QUICK EDIT MODE [knobs]:
In Preset Edit mode, Patchcords have MidiA through MidiP as sources.
These allow you to send the knobs to various destinations. You have
24 layer level patchcords and 12 preset level patchcord.

PROGRAM MODE [knobs]:
Also, using the controller button, you can access the Programmable
Knobs (K1-K16).

You can switch between Quick Edit, Program, Volume, and Pan modes on
the fly.

Hope this helps.

Look at the velocity curve settings in the global menu.
Theres a number of differant responce curves for the pads.
