260e and 297 -- any opinions

2008-09-21 by cellabbee

Hi all,

I have an empty module space I'd like to fill and am considering
either the 260e Pitchclass Generator or the 297 Infinite Phase Shifter
- because both have AUDIO as primary path which I am looking for more
of, and they both seem like like might be fun and simple to play with.

So -- anyone experienced with either of these or have some interesting
2 cents to offer?

The 297 is quite expensive (highest priced single-space module) so the
question is does it deliver sonic goods enough to justify its sticker
price, while on the other hand I wonder if the more affordable 260e
might be kind of a one-trick pony.

also, I should mention I don't have a 225e so not being able to save
297 patches not an issue.

thanks --

dimitrios

I've had both. The 260 can function as a basic VCO, and I did do some
interesting things with it by running its signal through a VCF while
randomly varying the center frequency. But when I had to get rid of
one module for space purposes, I decided to keep the 297 and get rid
of the 260. Ultimately, I found the signal processing of the 297 more
useful and flexible than the audio capabilities of the 260.

I use the 297 mainly as an signal processor, but you can do some
interesting effects if you use a phase-shifted audio signal as the
modulation input to a VCO....
