P&E Micro CPU32 BDM Interface

P&E Micro CPU32 BDM Interface

2005-09-12 by jochen_stroebel

Hello,

i need some help,

I use Codewarrior for 68k (legal version) and want to test/programm
an 68360 QUICC-Board. Unfortunately the BDM-Parallel Interface ist
unfindable, so ich choose to build an BDM Interface myself, i found
an BDM-PD-Interface based on the original Motorola Design an built it.

But Codewarrior only supplys the P&E Micro CPU32 BDM Interface (or
the P&E Lightning card) now a need a Schematic of the P&E Interface
or at least a Pin Out for Parallel-Port, which Signal comes out to
which Parallel Port Register (BDM-PD Interface uses Control and
Status Register) (P&E uses Data, Control and Status Register of LPT1
I Suppose..)

Please help, I neet to test the board.

Do you have any suggestions for my Problem?

Best Regards

Jochen

p&e still sells BDM interfaces for CPU32 processors.
http://www.pemicro.com/ .

there is also a reverse-engineered schematic and source code for a GAL
to build a P&E compatible BDM interface at
http://sourceforge.net/projects/bdm/ .

Yes, but for a Student ist a little expensive, if you see the little
logic function the GAL has to do, perhaps someone has at least the
pinout with the signals on the Parallel-Port-Side of the P&E Micro
Interface for CPU32, so i can adapt my homemade PD-BDM-Interface on
Parallelportcable? (I am not complete shure the Motorola IDC
compatible BDM cable ist complete equal (on parallel port side) to the
P&E ?!? )

Yes, I see but there is only the discription Motorola IDC compatible
BDM cable, does it work with Codewarrior for 68k and my QUICC Board
from Motorola?

One more question, ist the Wiggler IDC compatible, too?

Jochen,

I can send you a pre-programmed GAL if you like. Or even a design for
a BDM P&E Micro design single layer print that I designed with Eagle.
I don't have any prints left to send you.

Avi.

you could use the GNU debugger with your existing PD-BDM-Interface.

the ICD32 part is/was made by P&E. it is the same part.

I do not know.

I will do it so, if all other way fail.
My homemade PD-BDM Interface is not testet completely, yet and i plan
to write my own litte BDM Driver for it under Windows XP/2000

Jochen,

The BDM driver mentioned on the sourceforge.net works flawless on
XP/2000 using giveio.sys. There is no need to write another driver. I
tried on w2k to write a driver but it was a hell of job and it is much
slower that using giveio.sys as is being used
in the BDM project. I don't mind you write a driver but you might fall
in the trap that you are making tools all the time (like me... got a
'332 with the TPU already 4 years ago including the TPU assembly book
but never even made a program using the TPU... yet :-)

Hello Avi,

i habe the driver package from sourceforge, but no possibility to
build it, because i dont have the GNU-Develloping tools on my
computer... and its always better to understand if you can play with
the code :-) if i had a running Programm for Windows XP/2000 i would
not write one.. and the old Dos-based BDM Software Did not work on my
Computer or the Notebook :-(

so long

Jochen

Jochem,

www.cygwin.com will get you a full blown GNU environment. In any case
you'll need Cygwin in case you want to switch to the gnu tools suite in
combination of a working and up to date gdb with bdm. The gnu tools for
the m68k you can download from the website that is to be found here:
http:// www.davehylands.com/avi/index.htm

I agree that it is nice and better to understand the code but
reinventing the BDM wheel is nice but takes a lot of time. I guess you
want to write code for your board as well :-)
