You can get them. I got some. Just put mmbt in front of the number in
the search instead of 2N. I stumbled across them when looking through
the paper catalog for something else.

mmbt3906
mmbt3904

I am not an expert with transistors but I think these are the same
type but in a different package.

So what is a biologist doing with 500 transistors, anyhow...some
weird Venus Flytrap robot?

Thanks for all the help... I went to Mouser and they were only $0.03
each in quantitys of 250, so I ordered 500 NPNs and 250 PNPs... That
should keep me set for a while. (plus I was able to order some chips

Actually, I'm a biologist with TOO MANY hobbies... Lately I have been
building various electronic shutter release devices for my digital SLR
camera (so far I've built an 433mhz wireless trigger, broken-beam
trigger, lightning trigger, sound trigger, and I am getting ready to
build an ultrasonic motion detector based trigger (last part is on the
mouser order), and have plans for a couple of computer interface
circuits). I'm just one of those people who can't stand to be bored,
and I love learning new things, so I have picked up lots of hobbies
(much to my wife's dismay).

Is this based on the radio waves that often come before the lightning
strike?

RE: [AVR-Chat] JTAG ICE

Hi Santos

I think the one Olimex (www.olimex.com) has, is a remake of this one. But I’m not sure, maybe Tsvetan will confirm this :o)

I’m going to purchase the one he has for sale when my new J-TAG enabled boards get into production (can’t wait to try it out!)

I built one. It works. Took a couple of hours to lay out and cut a simple
pcb and program a spare m163 laying around.
Is it better then brand name jtag-ice ? Not really. but it is an awful
lot cheaper.

Unless you are counting every penny (substitute appropriate small
denomination coin) It might be better to just get one from olimex.

Now if somebody would come up with a dirt cheap one wire debug. I really
want another way to debug mega8s (mega88).

For anybody who wants it, I just tossed up the schematic and pcb artwork
for my JTAG design onto my projects page.
If you already have the parts laying around and really want to roll your
own. Pretty easy to build if you can make your own PCBs.
Instructions for doing that with toner transfer paper also on the site.

  Mixed dip and smd design.

Does this design/bootloader work with Mega16?

There does appear to be a mega16 loader listed on the original site, but
possibly with issues

I only tested the design with an m163

There are several "clones" of the JTAG-ICE available using variations
of this circuit. They lack many features of the JTAG ICE, but also
lack the $300 price tag. The Olimex was the first, I think, but I
would not recommend this. The design is very poor. So poor, in fact,
that I have also designed a JTAG ICE clone, which I will soon be
offering in production for about $40.00 US, shipping worldwide. For a
preview, please see:
http://www.ecrostech.com/Products/AvrJtagIce/Intro.htm

Making your own JTAG ICE is a nice project. But, if you want a JTAG
ICE to use to get work done, for heaven's sake buy one. By the time
you've had a PCB made your own will cost you more. Also, as soon as
something is not working, how do you know whether it's the target
system or the JTAG ICE? I have designed my JTAG ICE very carefully to
avoid any possible interference with the target system either through
EMI or power supply coupling. It is also so small it requires no desk
space and sits on the target system connector.

Graham.

No, this one is light based since it is designed to fire the camera
shutter when it "sees" a bolt of lightning with in the camera's field of
view. I have a bunch of schematics for RF based lighting detectors and
I may build one when I get done with the current set of projects.

I will have production units in two to three weeks. I just need to
send away for the printed circuit boards to be manufactured. I have
one prototype unit available. The only difference is that the PCB has
no solder masks or silkscreen. Electrically, it is identical. If
anyone wants this, it would be $34.95, i.e. a $5.00 discount. I ship
by USPS Priority Mail in the USA for $5.00 and air-mail to other
countries for $10.00. Thank you for your interest and for tolerating
my advertising!

Graham.

Try this Bootloader

http://www.microsyl.com/megaload/megaload.html

It does need Codevision CC for building , but the free Codevision
does fine with this little program.

It should be rather easy to port to GCC Btw.

I used it for a Mega32 , and it works perfect.
