RE: CZ software interface.

Furthermore, it would be nice if someone came up with a software that
would handle all the Sys-EX recognition for the user. Not strictly a
MIDI-USB. Something with a PC converter that you could hook into your
CZ and then drive the CZ via software.

Rob,

I've been sitting here with my Casio AZ-1 controller playing some
sort of NI B4 thing on my laptop (what's all this ASIO crap, anyway?)
I'm wondering what programs you've tried to drive the CZ from PC?
Midi-Ox can record everything I play on my CZ1 or the AZ-1 controller.
Then the script file can be replayed with all the CC and program
changes. M-O can even remap the controllers and save the setup. The
midi ports in one of my PC's include Midi-Yoke 1-8, SB MP-401 Midi,
Roland Serial Midi, and MidiSport 1X1 USB to Midi. This is only a PIII
Win98SE machine. The laptop has XP-SP2 with Roland Serial, and the 1x1
USB Midi.

There are several other programs that can do the same deal as M-O so
unless I misunderstood your question I hope this helps.

I think I see what you are doing, Narfman. What I don't understand
is why can't someone create a software program to do all of
this "right out of the box"? i.e. for us less technical people who
don't have a lot of computer knowledge.

I just want something quick and easy. Something that will look like
Steinberg's Cubase SX (or something like it), and will run on MAC
and PC. ...and have all the MIDI built in.

The JSynthLib is cool, but why is it so hard to download it. I hear
that people who are trying to use it on MAC OS have a really hard
time getting it started.

hope it helps.

Hey Rob,

I helped debug JSynthLib using Windows. The programmers haven't
done much to it lately. I've never used it with a Mac. The biggest
problem Windows user have is either finding the JSynthLib executable
to run the program or making a shortcut to start the program. Because
Java is similar to Unix the caps have to left in the shortcut or it
errors and says class not found. Fun, fun, fun!!!

I have to admit it is a blast setting up any midi interface or
program from scratch. Even with years of PC's under my belt it would
be nice to put in a CD and have everything come up working. Though
I've yet to see that happen....

Rock on, Narfman

Hi everyone
It's not very user friendly and there are few of us Amigans left but I have made some software to make putting CZ tone_data into OctaMED a lot easier.
This is my website..help yourself...http://www.tstevens.freeserve.co.uk

Oh man, The Amiga! I miss it. I really miss the Amiga. I do have some
cool Amiga stuff if any one is interested.
I have an excellent audio card. It's a Toccatta, and it workes pretty
well for multi track recording. Very clean.
Also, a 3 port Midi interface from the Bars and Pipes guys. I may also
have a Retina 24 bit video card, and
some other stuff.

Re: CZ software interface.

2007-02-06 by Rob

I basically gave up trying to buy something that would let me link
my CZ-5000 to my PC. I didn't want to spend hundreds of dollars on
software that might not even work. I tried, a number of years ago,
to do MIDI input/output via a little program I found and mapping it
to win32API. ...sort of like GMT_MIDI. ...To hard ...too much work
with the syntax. I didn't have much success.

I'm not sure what ASIO is about. I've read it's more for sound
engineers. It's a protocal for audio; and it lets you interface
between your sound card and an application. You no longer have the
limited access to sound control through your driver to your sound
card. Something like that. I know it was created by Steinberg who
gave us Cubase.

(I wonder how well it works in Windows Vista.)

What do you want to do with the CZ-5000 hooked up to the PC?

It should work with any funtioning sequencer.
It should also work with various sysex utilities.

I have my CZ 5000 hooked to my PC, and I can not only sequence with
multiple voices, but I can use a better keyboard to play it. I use a
midiman and Sonar or Cubase.

Yep! There you go. Plus, I like to use notation software like
