Hello there ! Is there anybody working with a Casio FZ / Hohner HS-1/E-Sampler ? What do you use it for ? I think the handling is quite complicated but the Sound is great. Bye Cornleius

Hi Cornleius Just scored a Fz-10 this week. Having quite a bit of fun with it just loading up and doodling with the 142 "shareware" libraries that I have downloaded. Jeez, for being the first 16 bit sampler, this thing sounds great. I heard its nickname was the Fuzzee-one and was expecting something that sounded very lo-fi. So far its very full and clear sounding. We'll see how it goes once I start loading my own samples. Sadly the disk drive is kaput, thank god it still loads on sysex midi. I also lucked onto a FZ-1 keyboard on ebay over the weekend. Cooool Ive been looking for one of these for over a year. All my Cristmasses at once!! The 4 synth modes look interesting. Glad I found out about these gems Jeremy

Hi Jeremy ! I think so too, this machine really sounds great. Compared for example to a software sampler it has got much more presence. I have never loaded files via midi as sysex files. Is it easy to do ? If you want it to sound lofi, try sampling a sound at 9 khz. The filter (DCF) sounds great too. The synth modes are good too. It needs some time to edit. but the results are fine. greetings Cornelius Am 25.09.2007 um 14:55 schrieb jboltnz: > Hi Cornleius > Just scored a Fz-10 this week. Howdy, i remember when the FZ-1 first came out, my freind bought one and brought it over. We sampled 1 note out of my cheesy little Yamaha CS- 01, and played polyphonically, was the fattest analog synth sound I had heard up to and a while after. BIG, REALLY BIG! Hi Jeremy Regarding the dead floppy disk, this is a common problem with all the FZ's. The problem is caused by the fact that the floppy drive never switches off - even after the sample has been loaded and the light goes off. The disk just continues to spin, wearing itself and the disk out eventually. To stop your good FZ's floppy dying, always eject the disk when the sample has finished loading. T There are ways to replace the FZ drive with a modified PC floppy drive here: http://www.buchty.net/casio/fz1-diskdrive.html Cheers, Graham --- In CZsynth@yahoogroups.com, "jboltnz" <jboltnz@...> wrote: > > Hi Cornleius > Just scored a Fz-10 this week. Hi Graham Thanks for the info. Yes Rainer@Bucty seems to have gone deep into areas that few mortal synth freaks dare tread. Thank God! I printed all of the info on Bucty net and gave it to my Synth Tech (Paul Robertson- Sound Check, Adelaide -Genius) to see if he can sort out a PC drive replacement. If its just a matter of changing the speed of the drive, hell crack it. He fixed every other peice of vintage synth/landfill Ive thrown at him so far. I have nothing but admiration for people like Rainer. Their sharing of knowedge is so generous. Ill report back the progress. Jeremy

Hi Cornelius Re > I have never loaded files via midi as sysex files. > Is it easy to do ? I downloaded two programs FZU_FTU and FzTransfer, from here I think. Both seem to work. I found FZU-FTU very straight foward. It has Several pages with a fairly clear interface that has nnice hints at the critical points. FzTransfer looks quite nice too, it also has what I think are wave file import options, that would be brilliant, but I havent worked them out. Im not sure how long it takes to load a full bank from a floppy, but it must be faster than the 10-12 minutes it takes to send one by midi. Plenty of time to make a cuppa or keep noodling with the VZ or CZ of course. The 142 pc "Shareware" collection is very cool. Ive been quite surprised how nice these ancient sample libraries from the dawn of sampling sound. People must have put in serious time crafting them. In its day the FZ must have been a very cool peice of kit. Those synth modes Preset,Additive,Cut Sampled,Hand drawn. Where do you find a synth or VSTi with that baggage? Kurzweil K2000?, Chameleon? Z3Ta? Virsyn? Anyway as soon as I get it serviced Im going to give it a long deep look. Maybe its time add shareware disk #143 to the archive "20 and still kickin"". We'll see. Jeremy

Hi Jeremy ! Okay I see ! Unfortunately I have a Mac, so these Programms won't work for me. As far as I know there is no Programm for the Mac to transfer the FZ-file fomat via sysex. Or is there anybody who knows one ?
