Has anyone sucessfully tried the FZ floppy drive replacement instructions at the www.buchty.net/casio site? If so, can you give some details as to how you made it work? Not that I need it yet for my FZ-1, but one day it will happen. It would be good if we could get this together as a detailed instruction guide, with photos, as a reference resource document on this site. Cheers, Graham

Hi Graham ! > It would be good if we could get this together as a detailed > instruction guide, with photos, as a reference resource document on > this site. That is a good idea ! I only did the backlight diplay replacement successfully. It wasn't very difficult. Only one Problem: After placing the foil in the case of the display, the display only showed strange signs, fragments of letters. I contacted the support, where I had bought the foil. They told me that the display had to be placed exactly one position to make contact to the case around it. I opened the case moved the foil a little and then it worked ! Now it is like new. Yes, and it works fine! I followed the instructions and made the connections in the cable. It's as simple as cutting 4 wires and soldering them together.

So what floppy drive did you use to get it to work? A modern one from a shop, or something out of an ancient old computer? Can you do a drawing of the cable changes? I would like to be able to get together an illustrated guide that can be put up on this site for everyone to reference, I could put the diagram in the guide for you. I took the (Samsung) floppy drive from an unused 2 year old PC. It is a standard modern drive and I think that any would work. The instructions on how to make the cable are on the www.buchty.net/casio site. They're very detailed and you can rely on them completely but I agree that they can be a bit confusing. For practical purposes a actual picture of the cable would be better, I'll take one as soon as I get my FZ-1 from the top of the closet where it sits now. (it's a very time-demanding instrument, I'm very limited in time so I tend to play with more immediate stuff) Joaquim --- In CZsynth@yahoogroups.com, "gmeredith1" <gmeredith1@...> wrote:

Hi Joaquim, The phto would be great! Also, if you could list any jumpers/settings you had to change on the floppy. Also, does the new drive stop rotating and go into rest mode after finishing loading the disk? There seems to be an issue that some drives keep running after loading, and the only way to put them into rest mode is to eject the disk. That is the case with mine. There were no jumpers on my drive, About the spinning floppy, the www.buchty.net/casio site says: " Attention: In my special case using the /MOT line for motor control resulted in a permanently spinning floppy. This may result from a defective NAND gate which drives that line - I just didn't care. Instead of using the /MOT line I wired /DS0 to /MOTEx which works perfectly for me. " I also had a permanently spinning drive so I wired /DS0 to /MOTEB as instructed and it works perfectly. Joaquim --- In CZsynth@yahoogroups.com, "gmeredith1" <gmeredith1@...> wrote:

Good News! I enquired a few days ago to www.Route66studios.com, who make replacement drives for every other vintage synth, to see if they had any intention of making a FZ replacement. I got the following reply from Andy the shipping mangager "We are working on the FZ-1 drive now, keep posted" Not very expansive, but its the best news regarding these infernal drives Ive had for a while. My tech has had a couple of cracks at Bucty's solution, but without success. I know that other people have pulled it off, but I think theres some subtle jigsaw peice of information missing. Anyway since Route66 seem to be able to offer new drives for around $75.00 US, it may not be a problem in the long run. If you are keen on these replacement units, maybe you can also contact them to give them encouragement and give them an idea of demand. www.Route66studios.com route66studios@... Cheers Jeremy
