Re: [CZsynth] RZ1

I bought one when they firts came out.. my first drum machine, i was 13 i
think.. did some early techno tracks with it. I learned sampling on it :)
ye it had a nice clap.. the BD was awful.. I heared some guy doing 909
epmons for it and it sounded really good!
wouldent pay much for it nowdays tho.. if you like it alos check out the
kawai R machines.. 12bit gritty stuff. i have a kawai r-50e, sampled
electronic drums (simmons type) with some digital effects.. sound really
rough.. dmx type..

Yeah it wore thin with me too,but certainly different I used it on a
few published tracks I used to have the sound I wanted to use already
on another sampler and set the RZ1 to auto sample then just play the
original sampler key,got some good results sometimes but mainly it was
the weird lo-fi hihats and cowbell I used actually I think it had 4
slots for samples?

Re: [CZsynth] RZ1

I have done my best to collect as much retro as possible - RZ1 is included.

Charles is almost correct - like a lot of samplers Casio made - there are 4 spaces for samples which can be contatenated into 2 longer ones.

Re: RZ1

2012-10-31 by analogmonster@ymail.com

Alot of drum machines of the era can have multiple roms in them, and most have had their formats decoded so you can have custom samples. Ive seen Alesis hr16, korg dd1/dd5, kawai r50/r100, and the casio rz1 all with rom switches. R100 is my favourite pcm drum machine, with the casio rz1 a close second. Its the only one with built in sampling though, a whopping 2seconds if i remember correctly. Oh, and they all sound great circuit bent! Its nice to use machines that are a little more unusual, im pretty sick of the typical roland fodder.

Check out this heavily modded rz1

Hi Peter, you were obviously a precocious little brat like me......lol
I have a R50e I love it pretty editable too.The DMX/DX/Drumtraks all
sound much of a muchness unless you change the eproms, actually to be
quite honest in reality the RZ1 drum sounds are f**king awful but had
character!
The LinnDrum was the one that most people remember which the others
copied because of its use by popular artists of the time like Human
League etc,the R50e is more mid/late eighties jam&lewis etc funnily
enough the LinnDrum became the Linn9000 sampling drum machine which
became the famous Akai MPC

Re: [CZsynth] RZ1

2012-11-01 by Lee Borrell

The RZ1 sounds are pretty similar to the other PCM sounds Casio used, for my money the reason to have it was the sampler function.Even the RX5 which I picked up for a song does not sample, nor does the tiny but powerful RY9 - lowfi it maybe but useful.Having said that I have not actually used the sampler function,I am perhaps worried that My RZ1 will break down and I will have a lump of lead and not a piece of history!

Let me guess....

Maybe Files section of this yahoogroup?

:-)

I think I have found also some sounds by googling them (Casio CZ
patches, or similar). Thanks to compatibility you can use or adapt
sounds from any CZ synth.

Not all of them are in MIDI format (MID or SYX), but as graphs or text
only, so you have to set them manually.

RZ1

2012-11-07 by Jason Adkins

Hi all,

The most famous RZ1 tracks that I can think of are the ones on De La
Soul's 3 Foot High And Rising especially Jenifa.
I love that album.
