CZ-1 problem: no power at all anymore (transformer problem?)

CZ-1 problem: no power at all anymore (transformer problem?)

2013-05-13 by terry.vanilla

Hello
I tried to clean my good old CZ-1 yesterday and suddenly, after putting it all together again - it died completely. No LED, no lights on anymore, just nothing. I checked the input voltage at the transformer, it is as expected 230V. There is no voltage level on the secondary part of the transformer (while the board is still attached - ie. I did not yet try the transformer without the attached board). So all the 15V and 5V supply for analog and digital circuits are now unavailable (almost 0 V). The fuses are all OK, so I suppose it is in fact the transformer that died... or does the transformer switch off automatically in case of a short circuit or high temperature? :-(
Did anyone of you guys have similar experience? Do you know if I can replace the transformer easily, will a universal transformer be OK for the CZ-1? Or do I have to buy a special one from CASIO? Probably it is not available anymore anyway....

Thanks for helping out a little.
Cheers
Terry

Sounds indeed like the transformer died, you can indeed check the output with no board attached or test the output coils (whilst not plugged in) with a resistance meter - which should show low resisitance - infinity means it is busted.

You do not need a casio replacement, but you do need to know the current rating and the value of the output coil(s) voltage(s).

Oops - checked the resistance but it was ok. Then I noticed that the cables were no longer attached to the power switch... They had gone off... So I think that was the reaoson (Level 1 Problem :-) )

Thanks for your support anyway

[CZsynth] CZ RAM battery polarity

2013-05-24 by jing garcia

hello cz people,

may i know the polarity of the battery contacts to the board of the CZ RAM 64-voice data cartridges?

when i got the cart, the entire battery contacts were ripped off the board. so i need to know, which contact on the board is negative?/positive

i don't even know if this thing works, but i just want to make sure.

thanks in advance.

What brand is it? If its an EZ-CZ, I can open mine up and try to post a picture of the board.
