Would this be possible with a CZ-1000? I saw one time a demo video talking about the backup battery hack.. but the unit had a beautiful blue backlight.. i did a similar project with my TX-7 which looks so cool now :) A guy on ebay was selling them so that was straight forward with instructions and no soldering needed. I know this is off topic a little, but seeing we're all talking about old synths you'll forgive the tangent still about salvaging classic gear. this site, help me understand, is it a solution for any/most old devices that had backlight LCD elements? I have a ART Multiverb III that has a perfectly fine working LCD screen but the backlight element has simply faded out.. i'd love to get it glowing again because it is tough to read without it being set back a bit inside the device. Thanks, Caleb Daniel Forr danforcz@... [CZsynth] wrote:

If the old display uses EL foil supplied by hi voltage from inverter, then it's possible to change the old EL foil only. There are even different colors of backlight. It is possible that that firm can sell you the exact size you need, because standard size displays have similar dimensions. If not, buy the bigger panel, cut from it the piece in the proper size, connect electrodes, glue edges with transparent plastic tape (or laminate whole piece) and it should work. Or ask that firm if they can prepare for you the laminated EL foil with dimensions you need. For this you have to disassemble the machine, desolder and pull off the old EL foil, and measure it. I don't know how much space is inside CZ1000, but probably it is possible. I have changed display in my CZ3000, it was OK. Display has HD74480 standard. From the schematics it looks like the display has no EL backlight, there's no inverter circuit. Here is some guide which I have found somewhere on the net. ---------- I suppose soldering is necessary for connecting the new display to the cable, add limiting resistor, and two cables to the PSU. Ask http://www.backlight4you.com/ or www.midi-rakete.deThey have EL foils for virtually any existing device. They can make a custom one for you if your model is not directly supported.BR,J.a.On 16 August 2016 at 04:02, Caleb Garner caleb.garner@gmail.com [CZsynth] <CZsynth@yahoogroups.com> wrote:I know this is off topic a little, but seeing we're all talking about old synths you'll forgive the tangent still about salvaging classic gear.

Hiya,I finally replaced the CZ-1 backlight. It was quite easy and didn't take more than 10 minutes to do the whole job.Thank you Daniel for your recommendation. My CZ-1 looks like new now. :-)

so the CZ-1 had a backlight but the CZ-1000 didn't? there is no practical way to rig this? I see things like this for sale for the CZ-101... and seeing how similar the tech is under the hood it would seem like LCD displays would also be more similar than different. I guess I don't need a backlight but it would look so cool ;) Caleb Daniel Forr danforcz@... [CZsynth] wrote:

I have a question about the replacement backlights: I have a backlight that was removed from an ASDA mp3 player - which gives a flat blue light suitable for replacing the missing one on the RZ1,although it is a tad shorter. What I don't understand is where the light actually is on the original and how to insert the new one? From the following instructions (which is a cheap way of replacement) it suggests the LCD has to have the reflective part removed from the back of the LCD glass in order that light pass through it. Since I already replaced some LCDs with modern backlighted ones,I have never needed to add a light, however upon trying the light I have behind one of the old LCDs,there is no light - suggesting that the instructions are correct, and that the LCD needs modifying before inserting a light behind it. Having completely rendering a Casio VL1 display into oblivion by messing with the rubber strips that connect to the PCB I'd be loathe to mess with the RZ1 LCD (although I had it out already attempting to update it,only to find the single line displays won't work as the matrix is 8x2) in case I mess that up. Does the LCD need messing with in this fashion to add a backlight,or am I missing something?
