evolver delay

evolver delay

2003-08-26 by sirsimonjames

Now I love my evolver, its fun to use, creates wild moving textures
and sounds amazing.... but I still need to know does any one else
have a problem with the feedback on the delay? It just fizzes out and
dies if you have the feedback turned up too high.

There is nothing better than a big wash of feedback with more and
more different sounds being added and building and building but I
just can't get my Evolver to do this.

yes, it seems every evolver got the same delay feedback. i am not a
feedback specialist but maybee there is a general difference between
a normal delay and the evolver delay architecture.. maybee someone
should ask dave smith about this. i am sure he will answer.

each delay line alone may not have enough gain to do what you want,
but turn up all three (level1, level2, level3) and you should be able
to get some explosive feedback. you can set them all to the same time
if you want them to sound like a single delay line (time1, time2,
time3). you will also have to turn up one or both of the feedback
levels (feedback1, feedback2). feedback1 is clean digital feedback and
distorts badly. feedback2 is less harsh because it is routed through
the filter and vca. those will have to be turned up for it to have an
effect (filter frequency, vca level). use the filter frequency to
adjust the feedback tone on feedback2.

the tuned feedback (level) can also produce explosive feedback and it
is stereo which can sound nice. it also runs through the filter and
vca so remember to turn those up (filter frequency, vca level).

you beat me it! This a good way to get lots of delay
feed back, but can get really messy if not worked out
perfectly.
What I would reccomend is gettiing a dedicated high
grade delay unit, this would solve all your probs. No
point in relying on in-built fx, you bought a synth
not a delay!

hi and thanks for your reply. Yes you are probably right, a stand
alone delay unit would do the job better. And yesI did buy a synth
and not a delay unit, but it was a synth that was sold partly on the
quality of the feedback that it could create thats why I was
wondering why the feedback from the delay fizzes out if pushed.

Anyway I'm still more than happy with the little blue box, it makes
some amazing sounds.

Hey Sir James ;o)

No offence intended back there, didn't mean to come
across short.
You do seem really smittin with audio delay! I am
like you and love delay (excepting in the supermarket)
and am having a lot of fun with the evolver, it has
the best onboard delay of all my gear, but ended up
getting an fx expander with extreme delay. Lining up
my 3 delays it gets around 5.5sec, add the evolvers
1.5 and that's 7sec (scary!) It's more fun adding
feedback in different blocks the chain.

I'll have to try what Adam suggested, think I may have
done this accidently before. I've found lots of great
patchings for riffy guitar sounds, then run the clock
of audio trig to get more rocky timing.

going now
