Audio inputs

2008-01-03 by stonemunky1221

So I'm using the desktop Evolver as an effects unit and loving what it
does but I notice there are specific effects for guitar and bass
(Banks 2 20-40)-and then some aren't but sometimes they will still
gate the effect. Obviously you can set the Trigger Select but so far
it doesn't seem that all the effect that react to the sounds are
dependent upon that.

So my question is:

What defines how the Evolver responds to sound? What makes a sound
more viable as a effect as opposed to just a synth. Is there a way to
alter a sound so its gates the way the sounds in bank 2 do?

Thanks in advance!

J

The evolver is deep. You re going to have to dive in! ;-) I d suggest the definitive guide to evolver , available free in this yahoo group, and learning how

Thanks Josh-

Oh I'm digging, don't worry! LOL!

What I'm trying to figure out is what makes the evolver combine a
signal, modify a signal or alter a signal. I've made some progress-I
just want to make sure I'm not aimless fighting a firmware issue...

You can have the envelopes be triggered in response to the input's
amplitude (loudness).
(I'm at work right now so don't have evolver or manual in front of me.)
It's a trigger mode thing, and you can set the input level to
appropriately respond.

If you only want efx, turn down the OSC levels to zero. The envelopes
can still sweep filter, etc if you want...
Or you can turn the ENV levels all down and set the filter to whatever
frequency you want.
Modulate away with LFO or whatever, add delay, feedback, EFX type stuff.

Not sure what the sounds in your bank 2 are doing (there are a few
versions w/ different banks)
but gating can be done w/ LFO, or note midi note input, or sequencer steps...
I think the definitive guide has a pretty good section on building
patches for use as EFX processing, as well as on gating input signals.
Hope this was more help than my initial 'RTFM' response, good luck!

Thanks-it does-I'm not infront of it right now but there were a couple
of things I figured out about it-some were about the osc levels but
there were a couple of other things that effected how it
responded-I'll put it up soon and see what you think...!

And you can even use the oscillators as an effect on the input :)
1 thing I did recently via the Mod source, was have the input
amplitude effecting the osc tune.
(Mod 1 source = Ext audio Env follower aka EiE, M1 dest = Osc All Freq aka OAF)
run some drums through it and the louder the drum hit (kick) the
lower/higher (whichever you choose, try them both) the osc freq.
pair that with envelope 3 being triggered by input amplitude as well
(envelope followinging) and sweeping the pitch/filter/whatever...
kinda squeaky- it sounded like a chew-toy built into a drum set =D

...or instead of drums, try a mic!

evolver is weird, so many ways to use it!
