Hi, I own a DTXpress III. Can anybody shed some light on why the sound of my kick drum drops out when hitting the cymbals or toms at the same time? Is this a factory fault or is it as simple as adjusting my settings? Could someone respond to this problem? Thanks

I have a DTXtreme IIS, and the same thing happens. When I tried the demo kit in the store, the same thing happened, the sales clerk told me it was a bad cable. Anyone have any ideas? I don't understand how these can be marketed as professional if this is an inherent flaw. --- In DTXpress@yahoogroups.com, "Chris . B." <mmhs@...> wrote:

Hi I've had this problem and it has been covered in previous mailings. Check out the archives and you'll see some tech talk about it. I resolved mine by looking at the sensitivity settings (not being too technically minded, I cannot recall, off hand the actual buttons to press!). Rest assured that you can sort the problem out. Mark

I think you haven't had many replies because the problem isn't common. I have never had problems between the kick and other pads - the kick is probably the best isolated pad from all others, but then I drum on carpet. Keith.

Hi guys,
I was rearranging some of my stuff and accidentally bumped into my dtxpress module and broke the transparent cover of the LCD display. Is there any way that I can order this from Yamaha or by it from somewhere?
Appreciate your help. Thanks.

I rather like the crack in mine. It's probably what made it possible for me to buy my floor model DTXpress1 for $239.00 three or four years ago. fyi... it's never affected the performance, just in case you can't find a replacement glass.

I did the same thing myself. If someone answers you via personal email. Could you forward the reply to me? Thanks
In the meantime I hope someone does come up with a reply

I dunno, I've always sensed this happens sometimes but it's so difficult to replicate. I'm thinking it's a design issue at chip level .. perhaps hitting too many things simultaneously is too much for the chip/brain to deal with. But then I work with computers so that's where my thoughts would initially go. So I'm with you, I just don't have any answers. J

There is a limit to how many "voices" the module can play, but that usually manifests itself as a cutting out of an existing sound, I think. It is possible it is a faulty kick drum pad - it would be difficult to tell if it only fails when you hit the high-hat unless it does it often enough to be reproducible. Other than that, all I can suggest is to reduce the specific and cross rejection settings on the kick drum. Keith.

Is there a fixed limit or is it just a matter of resources? Isn't the cutting out of an existing sound what we're talking about? Obviously we'd describe it that way if hitting loads of things cut out a cymbal fade, but if there wasn't a cymbal fade and everything being played was percussive and short, and one dropped out, that would be the problem effect wouldn't it? I'm sure I used to notice it with other combinations but since we only have so many limbs it tends to require the addition of the bass drum to get the effect. J

> Is there a fixed limit or is it just a matter of resources? As far as I know it is a fixed 32 note polyphony limit. > Isn't the cutting out of an existing sound what we're talking about? Yes, I think so, which is why I don't think the limit to the number of voices would sound like the kick not working when you hit the hi-hat. Keith.
