Earth

Hi ppl

At band practice last night, the 'sound man' was saying that he got a
buzz ing sound from my kit, but not from anything else. If my
Behringer amp was inbetween the kit and the PA, there was no buzz. So
he said that new, digital equipment isn't earthed properly.

Does he have a point, and if so, what can I do about it?

Cheers
J

PS. Keith, you're doing a great job here. I've run past your house a
few times recently.

J,

Earth, what earth! Devices which use wall power supplies usually
don't have earths - this includes the DTXpress. I am no expert in
this area but differential signals are often used to eliminate earth
loops, hum and pickup problems. Something like this
http://www.behringer.com/DI20/index.cfm?lang=ENG to link your DTXpress
to the PA may be of use if the PA can accept a differential input.
Before you spend any money though, it may be worth getting some advice
from someone who knows about such things. The local music shop may be
able to help and sell DI boxes.

Keith.

Hi,

since the DTXpress is only supplied by an external small DC voltage
and has no internal power supply, it`s unlikely that your problems are
caused here.
I`m also not an expert in this, but have had these troubles as well
with other equipment. So more likely is that you have used some badly
soldered, faulty or even wrongly connected cables. Check all
connectors and make sure that the internal shield inside the cable is
(if at all) only connected at the side of the signal generating unit!
Lots of noise problems are generated by this, especially when you
switch to XLR during the signals travel.....

Good luck,
Wolfgang
