Kick tower sensitivity

Kick tower sensitivity

2002-07-05 by briandejo

I see alot of people posting this problem but didn't see anyone with
a real indication as to how to fix it. My kick pad is to the point
that 1/3 to 1/2 of my hits are not coming through. Occasionally I
hear a faint, low volume hit, but not what it should sound like.
This is becoming increasingly frustrating as I am finally to the
point that the rapid fire is coming to me quite easily and I can't
hear it. Any thoughts?????

BYW - I'm playing through headphones, w/ and w/out cd accompaniment.

i'm not sure with the yamaha kick triggers, but with my pintechs i had
a slight problem when i was doing for an example steady 16th's or
32nd's with the kicks, that the triggers weren't tracking very well at
all,but i made a few minor adjustments on my module, and it really
seemed to clean it up quite nicely.. i didn't really no tice any
prob's with doin like triplets or quads, it was just when i was doin
a steady run with the kicks that it wasn't keeping up (tracking wise)
one thing idid do is put the input attenuation in the up position, and
it really made a difference so it may help you,but i'm not sure

anyone else got any ideas???

I gave up and replaced it... It had terrible sensitivity problems, then the pot just wasted away on it

Re: [DTXpress] Kick tower sensitivity

My kick pad did this about 2 months after getting the dtxpress.
It was never quite right to begin with, but it got real bad.

how to fix it:
1: get a soldering iron.
2: open the tower.
3: resolder every connection on the pcb - the impact puts micro cracks
in
them that causes intermittent firing.
4: If this doesn't fix it, replace all the resistors ( about $2 at radio
shack ). Sometimes the insertion machine in the factory put stress when
bending the lead which separates the lead from the resistor.

I also replaced the piezo sensor with a radio shack piezo ( $3 ), but
ultimately the problem was a resistor on the PCB.

I sent mine back and they repaired itfor nothing. Its a known problem by Yamaha.

Earlier this year I posted quite a bit about the problem. I told
Midwest Percussion about it. They put me in touch with Yamaha. I re-
soldered the connections etc, but nothing worked. Eventually Yamaha
sent me a new KP60. They were very nice about it. Not long
thereafter, however, I replaced this second kick tower, which was
better than the first one but not flawless, with one from DrumTech,
which tracks perfectly. Hopefully, the kick pad in Yamaha's new DTX,
which seems to be an entirely new design, works better. Cheap as the
necessary parts are, you shouldn't have to pay at all for the
company's mistake, unless, of course, you choose to buy from another
company, as I did.
