Hart Ecymbal II 16" dual-zone ride

Hart Ecymbal II 16" dual-zone ride

2003-01-15 by liberatusvirus <liberatusvirus@yahoo.com>

Hi all,

After a month of struggling to adapt the ECII16R to my Yamaha
module, I've given up. Anyone using Roland or Alesis electronics
with, or instead of, Yamaha will undoubtedly have better luck. My
decision to buy it came from Roland users' high recommendations. So
go figure. Apparently Hart is aware of the incompatibility issue
(I've now heard that it applies to the ride, the hi hat cymbal, and,
if someone currently selling on ebay is to be trusted, the
Acusnare). I'd rather someone in this group get the chance to make
use of it than have it go outside the family, unlikely as that
prospect may be in Yamaha territory. Those who own the DTXPU, DTX2U,
or DTXTU exclusively need not apply.

Ed-

Thanks for the information on the Hart cymbal. We all appreciate it.
I for one would like to let everyone know that the Accusnare does
work with the Yamaha DTXPU AND DTX2U. I have been using it with great
success.

Have you tried the Zenbal from Pintech? I've heard great things about
that cymbal.

Cary,

That's good to know about the Acusnare; the seller on ebay appears
to be mistaken. I hope someone using the hats or the ride will
confirm or deny my report. I know of one person besides me who can't
get the ride to work well via Yamaha. By the way, I posted about the
Zenbal a couple of months or so ago. Pound for pound and dollar for
dollar, I think it's the best cymbal to come down the pike in a long
time.

Re: [DTXpress] Re: Hart Ecymbal II 16" dual-zone ride

2003-01-15 by Matt Pobursky

I've been quietly watching this thread, but now decided to post my
experiences.

I have a Hart MegaPro set and DTXtreme module. I'm also using the Hart
Ecymbal II's (HH, Ride, 12" and 14" crash w/choke). I've had the kit
since last September and am still tweaking/learning.

When I bought the kit (from Drumbalaya -- highly recommended -- they
are great!), Ed told me they didn't have any experience with Hart kits
mated to a Yamaha DTXtreme and I might have to do some serious tweaking
to get things all sorted out. Since I was in no hurry, I decided to
give it a go.

So far, I have everything triggering and working well except my snare.
It's close, but not quite there yet. I did however get the HH and ride
working after quite a bit of tweaking. The HH was least troublesome,
but the ride took some time. I don't have the specific settings handy
right now but I do recall I serious trouble with cross-triggering on
the bell and ride pad. I messed with the
gain/velocity/rejection/specific rejection for some time until I found
a "sweet spot". Since then, the ride works very well.

I'm swamped with work right now, but if I can sneak away a little time
I'll try to post the final trigger settings I'm using for the HH and
ride cymbals.

I had virtually no problems with the two crash cymbals, although I find
the choke function to be kind of hit/miss. Probably user error
though...

Boy, this is getting good. Those settings for the hh and ride may
prove invaluable. I may have breached ebay etiquette by asking the
seller of the hh and snare by email who exactly at Hart confirmed
the compatibility problem. My ride is going through the DTXPU (at
least until my midiKITI returns from the hospital). But Walt uses
the DTXTU, and he can't get his ride to work satisfactorily either.
My problem isn't crosstalk but just getting the thing to make enough
noise and trigger consistently. I'm pretty patient, but a month of
tweaking is enough for me. The Zenbal, for instance, was up and
running immediately, with cosmetic tweaking along the way, which is
only to be expected.

I communicated with the ebay seller of the Hart hh and Acusnare. He
couldn't get them to work with the DTX v2.0. He spoke with someone
at Hart who claimed that the company was aware of the problems with
the DTX line and currently working on solving them (no one at Hart
has yet returned my call). I'm on the verge of parting with my ride,
but if someone has a possible fix, or successful trigger/pad/voice
setup, I'd love to try it. Hart is a great company that makes very
good equipment.

Re: [DTXpress] Re: Hart Ecymbal II 16" dual-zone ride

2003-01-19 by Briaan Storm

Hey Y'all,
I've managed to integrate Hart equipment into my
DTX 2.0 quite well. It took time and asking lots of
trigger and voice editing questions. I'm going to try
to put it in a nutshell for you, as I'm currently
working six eleven hour days a week. I'm using a dual
trigger Accupad for my snare, using a Hosa yp117
splitter into inputs one and ten, so I actually only
play(user editable) kits one through thirtytwo.When I
want to use a kit from kits 32 through 64, I save my
trigger edits to a kit in 1-32. I also use the Hart
series ten ride, splitting the dual signal into inputs
11 and 12, and a series ten crash into input 6 and a
hart ECymbal into input 7. I also use the Hart kick
drum. I use the rest of the tp80s for everything else.
the pcys are in a bin somewhere and Drumbalaya has my
old kicks.
I went into trigger edit mode on every kit, and,
using both the DTX manual and the 2.0 update
supplement, I started out by going to trigger edit
page eleven and reassigning the triggers as follows:
    Accupad head: voice 31
    Accupad rim: voice 34
    Left crash: voice 49
    Right crash: voice 55
Series Ten ride: main trigger gets voice 59(?) and
then the bell gets whatever the pcy rim triggered(I
think 53 0r 56.)
You can get the details in the back of your
manual, the info I've provided is just to get you
started. If you screw it up, reinitialize your module
and try it again. Once you familiarize yourself with
your module's layout, you will be alot more
confortable with it. BTW, say "HI" to Binky and Paul
for me the next time you talk to Hart. I plan to send
a wiring/trigger edit map of my kit to the group as
well as to the guys at Hart. I haven't gotten to it
yet, because I'm so busy right now and the fact that
although this may be very useful info,I AM working
with a module that Yamaha no longer sells.
        Good Luck,

Re: Hart Ecymbal II 16" dual-zone ride

2003-01-19 by liberatusvirus <liberatusvirus@yahoo.com>

Hi Brian, thanks for the info. It's good to know that that certain
Hart products and Yamaha electronics can play nice together. My
problem was with the newer bronze ride cymbal, and I wasn't alone.
Others have had difficulty integrating the metal hats and the
Acusnare. If ever there was a cymbal that I wanted to keep, it was
the ECII ride, but it wasn't to be. A happy Roland TD8 user now owns
what was once mine. Another member of this group (and of others) who
uses the DTXTU has been discussing the compatibility issue with
Peter Hart. It can only help. It would be nice to see e-drum makers
taking account of both Roland and Yamaha in their designs when
possible. It's starting to happen. Stay tuned.
