DTXpressII bass pad wear

DTXpressII bass pad wear

2003-05-27 by mikewarrenautographs

I use a double pedal w/ felt beaters and have noticed some wear on
the rubber bass pad (especially the right ft.). Is there any way to
rotate, or remove & rotate, the rubber bass pad so that the beaters
would hit in a slightly different place for longer pad life? Is the
bass drum rubber pad replaceable? If so, has anyone ever replaced
theirs? Thanks - Mike

PS: my once white felt beaters are now black - which is the black
rubber off of the bass drum pad.

Hey Mike! I have the same problem with my Iron Cobra double pedal
as well. The right beater's felt is also more black than the left
as well, along with more visable wear on the right side of the kick
pad. I'm not sure how to go about adjusting the actual pad, but I
know that some pedals allow the adjustment of the actual beater to
be moved up and down, thus striking the rubber head in a higher or
lower position. I don't know if that would bother your playing any,
but just a suggestion if your really worried about it.

What about the other option - use a "standard" acoustic kick pad over
the Yamaha pad, to save it from wear? Depending on how thick it is,
you may have to increase the sensitivity a tad.

I've only had my DTXpressII for about six weeks, and my brand new
felt beaters are also black.

I'm not sure if this is what moose it talking about, but what about
one of those badges you would place on a real acoustic head? I
think are meant for practicing quitely but with an electronic pad
you can adjust the gain and sensitivity to obtain a comfortable
striking strength, maybe even with one of those badges. Ok I looked
them up at musiciansfriend.com and they by slug percussion and are
meant to protect your head, hmmm, so maybe this would work if we
could find the appropiate size. Go to musiciansfriend.com and
search for "bass drum badge."

Yep, that's what I meant. Aquarian do them too.

I have also noticed this wear and am beginning to worry about the
life expectancy of the pad. I thought that if I were to put a strip
of wide black electrical tape on the pad where the beater contacts
it, this may protect the pad. Also being very thin I recon that I
shouldn't have to make any adjustments. What do you think?

I have had to put some electrical tape on the bass pad and
Ive also put some duck tape on the beater,my beater was starting to
go bald causing a dent in the bass pad,but it still works fine,I`m
seriously thinking bout a Pintech bass Drum.
