PLEASE HELP!!

PLEASE HELP!!

2003-09-22 by ashleighhk

I need help on persuading my parents to buy it for me for my
birthday/christmas. They normally only spend £150 on me at my
birthday and they said a while ago I couldn't play the drums because
it was too loud so I need to persuade them to let me have the
DTXpress!
HELP PLEASE!!

Do you have anything you can use to bargain with them--like "I'll
never ask you for anything ever again" or "I'll take back everything
nasty that I've ever said (or thought) about you"? As a last resort,
you could offer to do some work around the house, or get a job, or
promise to share whatever money you make as a drummer, or promise not
to move out, or promise to move out. Whatever works. You can also
tell them you'd be hanging out in a completely spam-free cyber-
environment. If that doesn't win them over, they are truly hard-
hearted.

Part of growing up involves learning that at some point you have to
stop depending totally on your parents for giving you everything. To
demand, or even just ask nicely, that your parents spend up to 10
times what they normally do is not right.

NOW - when I was 15 (a long time ago) I stood backstage watching a
rock band play at school and from that moment on I wanted to be a
drummer. I did a deal with my parents. At the start of the school
summer break they paid for a second hand drum kit BUT I had to pay
them back, in full, before school resumed. I worked all summer and
ended up valueing the kit I owned.

Once you own a kit the expenses don't stop. I am sure your parents
will be open to paying for lessons. When you start playing they will
probably have to drive you round with your kit. And god help them if
the band decide to practice at the drummers house!

Good luck

34 years ago, my girlfriend's mother said she would buy me a drum set
if I would quit seeing her daughter. I LOVED that drum set.

Ashleighhk,

You could always start out with a used module and a snare pad and practice
rudiments, rudiments, rudiments. Once your parents see that you are actually
willing to stick with it for several months, as oppose to it being just
another whim, that lasts for a week, they may be more likely to come to some
finaicial agreement with you for a whole kit.

You might want to look at this to see if it might be more in the price
range you are able to afford:

http://www.usb-shop.com/products/product40.html

Though really not a "professional" kit, it would allow you to see if
edrums are what you're interested in before you make the investment. :)

Wow.. just found that Tiger Direct has it for under $100! (ok, so $99 but
still..)

http://www.tigerdirect.com/applications/SearchTools/item-details.asp?sku=B133-1058

Might be fun to get to use for onstage-drum kit destruction.. maybe pour
lighter fluid on it and light it drum flambe ala hendrix! :D

A little OT this, but there's is a curious conflict of marketing going
on with this cheapie USB electronic kit as it appears to be being
marketed by two different companies, under two different names, but
with the same publicity photos and same price! Haven't seen this kit in
the UK yet but we're so far behind in product being available
(min-EMADs, J1s, Pearl stackers, Camber stackers etc etc - I'm sure you
get the picture) that it's not at all surprising.

You can check out the two kits here:

Bafo 'Soul'
<http://www.bafo.com/bafo/productslists.asp?foproduct_id=862>
Pacific Digital 'DrumXtreme' <http://www.pacificdigital.com/>

I emailed both companies asking what was going on but surprise,
surprise got no answer. Nor did Rhythm follow up on it when I pointed
it out to them - good to know the drum press are solidly behind the
consumer isn't it! :-)

I believe that drumbalaya is selling this set. It might be worthwhile to
contact them for their opinions r.e. it's value as an entry-level set.
